I purchased this laptop about 2 months ago.
It's got a 9th gen i7-9750H, and it came stock undervolted at -0.125v.
I noticed that the temps right out of the box were reaching 90-95c, which I really didn't like.
Sooo, I bought some thermal compound. Arctic Silver 5 to be exact.
I repasted the CPU and GPU. GPU temps are fine.
For the first few days, my CPU temps were fantastic under load. 75-85c max when gaming.
After about a week, the temps started rising to 90c again.
So I cleaned cpu again, repasted it again, and my cpu temps were even better than the first repaste. Idling at 29-40c, and gaming I maxed out at like 76c. I was super stoked about it.
3 weeks have passed, and my cpu temp maxes out at 90c when gaming. Sometimes hitting 92c.

Should I be concerned? I really don't like hitting 90c.
Is the problem with my pasting? What do?

I've seen some people saying that this is fine, but I really feel like it's not fine for the longevity of my laptop. If anyone has any insight on how I can get these CPU temps under control, please let me know.

    @misu1337 90°C is not normal
You need to make sure your bios is updated and gpu driver
    Main topic ↓
Did you remove the old compound from both the cpu and cooler?

Most of the time people apply too much thermal paste. The point of the paste is not to sit like a layer of mayonnaise between the CPU and heatsink. The job of the paste is to fill in microscopic air gaps between the CPU and heatsink. The vast majority of the heat transfer is via metal-on-metal contact - it's about 100x more effective at transferring heat than the paste (which in turn is about 100x more effective than air). If the paste is thick enough to decrease the amount of metal-on-metal contact, it will actually make things worse than having no thermal paste at all.

You also need to clean your fans and air vents(important)

Need to apply tiny amount of paste
I recommend you to use grizzly kryonaut thermal paste

Yes, I removed the old compound before repasting............................................. I applied a small amount and spread thin. GPU drivers are up to date. I've heard that some people who updated their helios 300 bios driver that the device would not turn on, so I haven't tried that.

keep in mind, the issue here is my CPU, not my gpu.

Actually, I just checked in device manager - apparently my bios is up to date.

it's a two month old device, lol. the fans are fine. completely clean. also, I checked the bios updates on the site and there is a new update. but I'm not convinced. updating BIOS generally shouldn't change anything regarding temperatures from what I've heard, and I honestly don't feel like throwing $1200 out the window tonight if anything goes wrong with this bios update.
Why are other people saying that CPU reaching 90c under heavy load is normal for predator helios 300, but you say it's not normal?
I can't just commit myself to following your recommendations without proper details m8

see, now that actually worked. Took me from 90c under load to a solid 78-80 which is preferable to me. Thanks man.
