My goal is to add a second M.2 SSD, not replace the original one. Is there room on the motherboard for a second M.2 SSD? Thanks.

    Hi,
Yes, you have two M.2 slots according to manual but the second slot may be an optional, that means some regions may have it and others may not have in their laptop, it should be where I have marked in the snip with orange circle,  these links may help.

It is not quite correct. R5-471T Service Guide schematics refer to the 2nd SDD slot, and physical volume inside the laptop support it, but there is no a M.2 connector soldered in there in the 2nd location, but a provision for only. The picture above shows it clearly. And even one can solder it in there, no one is sure existing BIOS supports it. "...some regions may have it..." doesn't seem to be correct as well since the model part number R5-471T-52EE is a singular one. May be it's correct for other 471T-xxxx laptops.

In addition, some forums discuss a possibility to install M.2 NVMe SSD rather than a SATA one. The arguments are SSD connector of the motherboard does not support NVMe form factor or the BIOS does not support its operation. MB's Service Guide (SG) specs refer to the SATA type. But actual SSD connector on it has only one split, which supports both NVMe and SATA types. More of this, looking at pictures of the disassembly guide referred above by brummyfan2, you can see there is a 500 GB NVMe Samsung 960 EVO installed there (and I suppose working OK). So, SATA or NVMe is not a question anymore. Does it support 1 TB or more (SG refers to up to 512 GB)? No answer yet.
