I have owned and used my predator laptop since June 2018. For the past several months while playing games such as Overwatch, Counter-Strike:Global Offensive, Rainbow Six:Siege, and others I have been getting normal frames followed by frequent drops to ~5 fps. The fps drops become even more frequent the longer I play games, I'm guessing as a result of the temperature increase. I keep it on an elevated cooling pad with 5 fans but it does still get hot after long usage. This becomes quite frustrating in fps games that rely on quick reactions and fast movements. I haven't made any changes to the hardware or operating system other than the normal windows updates. I am not sure what I can do to fix this problem or even where to start.

1)right click on battery icon go to power option then Set high performance plan
    2)always play while plug in
    important-
Update your graphic driver you have to install nvidia software for that, driver in acer site are just base driver.

    GET GAME READY DRIVER

For each major game release, NVIDIA works closely with developers to boost performance, fix bugs, and improve your gaming experience. Technologies like NVIDIA GameWorks™ give you the tools to optimize gameplay and bring you these improvements through a Game Ready driver update. GeForce Experience automatically notifies you when these drivers are available and, with a single click, lets you update to the latest driver—without leaving your desktop.

First time Download software from nvidia site, go through my link then select you graphic card details and download game ready driver

    https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

After installation open nvidia software go 3d settings and add you game .exe file and in global settings set high performance nvidia processor then you can open you game

Check your CPU usage.  Mine was hitting 100 pct usage and possibly overheating.  I bumped up some of my graphics so that the GPU could take more load off the CPU and that fixed it.

Hi everyone, yesterday i fixed my Acer Predator helios 300 PH 315-51 overheating and with fps drops in Dota 2. ( i had 80 fps with drops to 15)

After huge research and nothing working for me, i tried playing with the fans and max speed, and the fps changed to 100 to 40 more or less. So it was a cooler problem, i disarm the notebook (about 1,5 years old and i had never cleaned inside) and the coolers were really dirty. Now i play dota 2 full graphics with 140 fps with little drops to 100 fps. Obviously the T° of the CPU and GPU dropped a lot too, but i didn't check to the exact numbers.

Sorry about my english is not great haha

I recommend watching Youtube videos about how to disarm and clean the Predator correctly

    Good luck!

Kyle_Vantrease youre most probably thermal throttling check your temps optimize your windows properly and undervolt if u havent already its probably time to repaste it with kryonaut or similar and clean fans and exit airflow properly gaming laptops should be repasted once per year depending on the usage and temps

HernanRod its not a cooler problem its thermal throttling the instructions i posted above will fix any thermal issues

PS: do not repaste it yourself if you have warranty stickers/seals and are still on warranty you will void it
