Windows 8.1 updates stuck as SSD full on V15 Nitro - how do I abort the update?

Press & hold the power button is the preferred way to shut down. You then want to get back to the X : \ > as before and re-enter 'sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows' for the second time.Jack E/NJ

It did a repair scan and then rebooted...and went straight back to preparing to configure windows.
How many times do I have to do this?
Thank you for your time so far!

Did you get the same SFC message at the end of the scan or did it reboot on its own? "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."? Jack E/NJ

I got the same message - restarted the machine and it started repairing so I waited...and then it came back with preparing windows. Do I keep doing sfc until the message changes in dos?0

Instead, try this from the X : \ > prompt. Enter 'chkdsk c: /f ' Jack E/NJ

OK. Let's try the ALT+F10 cold boot recovery again while trying to save your personal files. But before we do, let's make sure the D2D and F12 options are both enabled in the BIOS Main tab. Jack E/NJ

OK how do you do the D2D and F12 options?
So I can't do any of the previous sfc options?

Hello - please can you continue helping me with the above? Thank you.0

Turn the machine off. Then turn it back on again and immediately ;press the F2 key to enter the BIOS menu. Click on the BIOS Main tab and make sure the F12 and D2D recovery options both enabled. Then press F10 to save settings and exit the BIOS menu. Jack E/NJ

OK. Turn the machine aff again. Then turn it back on and immediately press and holding the ALT key while tapping the F10 screen. Does a recovery screen now appear similar to the video below? Jack E/NJ

Yes I've been through that video at least 10 times and you are being obtuse in you responses but then I guess I'm communicating with a boy.
I press alt f10.
I get the blue screen
I go to trouble shoot
The top option tells me there is no possibility of restarting
The middle option doesn't give me a chance to leave my files on the drive. It just goes straight to wipe clean back to default settings
I've been using the third option for dos.
How do I get the second option to leave my files in the drive?0 -
Select 'Refresh your PC". Jack E/NJ

So let's try it again! Start the same way. Shut down completely by pressing and holding the power button till it shuts off. Then turn it back on again doing the ALT+F10 routine once again. If it still fails, then the best you yourself are gonna do is get as much as you can off the D and C drives from another computer, and then to a full factory reset. Or take it to a local shop to get an estimate of either retrieving the files you need or getting it back up and running the way it was before it was trashed. Jack E/NJ

I'm in the UK - no such thing as a 'shop' I can take it to. I will try the Alt +F10 route again.0
