- Acer logo appears
- Blue screen
- Back to Acer logo with "Preparing Automatic Repair"
- Black screen

This has been infintitely looping for 2 days

I've tried:
- Plugging into mains
- Pressing Alt+F10 on power up, which then says "Please wait" then gives me black screen and goes back to beginning
- Pressed F2 on power up to see if D2D recovery is enabled and it is, but Alt+F10 still doesn't make it enter into recovery mode

    Hi,
Could you please post the full model name of your laptop, like E5-xxx.

While we wait for the model number, if D2D doesn't work all you can probably do is reinstall Windows yourself, meaning plugging in a USB with a Windows installer, deleting every partition from the internal disk and continuing with the installation (it'd create the necessary ones, you don't need to).

One thing that comes to mind if you performed a firmware upgrade just before that happened is that it sometimes reverts back the settings to the default. And if Windows was installed with SATA mode being AHCI for example and the default in your machine was RST it wouldn't boot. Are you able to see the cause of the bluescreen when it appears? It's in the lower part of the screen.

You could boot off of a USB stick to get your data off of the disk and to an external one if you through with reinstalling Windows, or reinstall Windows on top of that installation (I wouldn't recommend it, but since it's possible I should point it out).

Oh... that's not good, if you can't boot from USB sticks either...
    • It's hardware related, not much we could do from here I think :anguished:, you'd need to take it to a repair shop or Acer service center.
    • The USB stick wasn't created correctly, there are some things to consider when booting from USB media:
      - If the boot mode is set to Legacy, booting from NTFS is fine.
      - If the boot mode is set to UEFI, the boot partition of the USB needs to be FAT32. And what's more, apparently 64-bit UEFI can't boot 32-bit UEFI code directly.
      - If the boot mode is set to UEFI and Secure Boot is enabled, whatever you want to boot has to be properly signed and approved by the firmware. It's not a problem for Microsoft OSes since their key is already enrolled, but if what you try to boot is Linux it may be a problem depending on the distribution.
      - MBR, PBR need to be set accordingly, depends on what you're trying to boot.
Question, do you have another computer you could use to create a bootable USB stick? If possible I'd like you to try to create a new following a utility called Rufus and an image I made the other day.

The procedure is simple, with the USB stick plugged in you select it first at the top, then use the SELECT button to choose the image and finally START at the bottom. Rufus ought to select the appropriate settings already, but keep this in mind:
    • GPT for UEFI
    • MBR for Legacy
    This is it:

As for Linux, you could use Rufus too to create the drive and at least the 64-bit version of Mint is able to boot even if Secure Boot is enabled in UEFI mode.

Aaaaaaand I forgot to give you the link for the image, silly me haha: https://mega.nz/#!1N9RiY5Q!L35NhaRmRqeEbknQpnJ95HLxB_yM_z82iwB53bTFuDU

Give that a shot, it's a Live 64-bit Windows 10 with some basic stuff (reboots by closing the launcher window). I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't allow you to boot from a Windows USB stick, usually the hard part is getting Linux to boot haha.

It may be dumb but double check the BIOS settings for the format you choose for the USB stick just in case, but other than that I'm afraid I'm out of easy ideas to try :#

It did not work for me. I'm writing my own post.

But to know that I'm not the only one with this issue exactly at the same time also with an Acer computer is quite interesting.
