Hii..I have dual booted my Acer Aspire ES1-132 with Win10 and ubuntu 16.04. I cannot find an entry for ubuntu in BIOS. I have the following questions:
1> How do I add an entry for ubuntu in BIOS?
But It didn't work.
2> When will the legacy BIOS mode be available ? Is it planned in next update for BIOS software?
3> Any temporary workaround to get an OS booted in legacy mode?

grubx64.efi is most likely. How about EFI\linux instead of \ubuntu directory? Try bootx64.efi too for good measure. Jack E/NJ

Thanks! It worked for me I copied contents of /EFI/ubnuntu to /EFI/Linux and then renamed the /EFI/Linux/grubx64.efi file to /EFI/LInux/bootx64.efi

I guess that is mostly due to the Apollo Lake processor. Thanks again. I still have another part of my question un-answered : How do I boot an OS in legacy mode? I really want to use Linux lite. But it boots only in legacy mode.

If the ubuntu seemed to install OK, then re-enter the BIOS menu, main tab. Make sure the F12 boot menu is enabled. Jack E/NJ

Hii I can't find the entry for ubuntu in f12 menu. I wanted to know how to add an entry for ubuntu manually in the boot options. Is there any way to do this using cmd in windows? using bcdedit possibly?

Does your laptop have the optional 2.5" HDD? If not, what size is the eMMC? Jack E/NJ

No it does't have an emmc or optional 2.5" HDD. It has 500GB Hard Disk installed that's it. but in bios options, it also has hd1 option but that's empty. Nothing there.

OK. Your HDD should be just fine for this. Sounds like you might've used an older ubuntu install that can't accomodate your UEFI bootstrapper. If setting and saving a supervisor password doesn't reveal additional security options upon re-entering the UEFI menu with the password, I suggest trying one of the latest Mint ubuntu flavors. I'm using 18.3 now. 19 just came out. The 18.3 install did have some minor glitches on accomodating my UEFI grub entry but might not be a problem for your machine. Jack E/NJ

Why can't you try the 18.04 install? What do the ubuntu forums recommend such as https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2359531  ?

Use the link below to guide you (follow the 8 steps)..  Please note that you can't use emmcblk0p1 because you don't have an emmc drive.

    http://www.slabbe.org/blogue/2018/05/installing-ubuntu-18.04-on-aspire-es-11-es1-132-c6lg/

     Probably sda1 or sda2 ??   /dev/sda2     or    /dev/sda1

You can also use the fdisk -l command to figure it out.

I saw that method but I don't have a boot folder under EFI in my ESF. :(

It'll take an 8GB DDR3L 1.6GHz or greater sodimm. Less than $50 with free shipping. Jack E/NJ

If those instructions that I gave you don't work, then the only other things I can suggest is to.....

    A.  Read megaparsec's instructions in link below

    https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/534636/acer-spin-1-sp111-32n-cant-boot-any-linux-from-usb/p1

    https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/534636/acer-spin-1-sp111-32n-cant-boot-any-linux-from-usb

    or

    B.  Read sladek90 instructiions in link below

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/862946/unable-to-install-ubuntu-on-acer-aspire-es1-533

    or

    C.  Make sure you have created your Ubuntu USB media properly with rufus and the Ubuntu iso.

rufus settings:  GPT, UEFI (non-CSM), FAT32

    https://rufus.akeo.ie/

    or

    D.  It's possible that Acer updated the BIOS on your computer model so it now contains "Select an uefi file as trusted" in the UEFI.  Check to see if it has this in your BIOS.

If your BIOS settings has something that says
"Select an uefi file as trusted" in the UEFI...... then follow the @JackE instructions in this link.   If you can't disable secure boot in your BIOS, then just skip that step as it can probably/possibly be done without disabling secure boot.  Add grubx64.efi or BOOTX64.efi or shimx64.efi before you install Ubuntu.

    I don't have an es1-132 and I'm all out of ideas.....good luck.

Yeah I know how to make an UEFI compatible live usb using linux. Read the question properly I said I already have dual booted the laptop. just not getting the ubuntu entry in BIOS.  I have updated the BIOS but it doesn't has select an uefi file as trusted. Bro I appreciate your effort but read my question properly. If you don't even have an aspire es1-132 then DON'T TRY TO GIVE IDEAS RANDOMLY

Your ES1-132 UEFI bootstrapper may be a harbinger of things to come in about a year or so. The BIOS emulator or compatibility layer has been removed or disabled. See the link below. Jack E/NJ

Hi all, sorry to be a noob here, but after reading through the comments I couldn't understand exactly are these install on MMC/HDD installs or simply on the MMC drive. I have ES1-132 - C974 and I have installed my old HDD so now I have
    1. HDD 120GB
    2. MMC 32 GB (The original one)
If I insert bootable usb with any linux or any operating system it boots fine, but when I install anything onto the MMC it's not shown in the Boot selection menu when I press F12, does anyone else have extra HDD installed? And do you guys have the same problem?
Basically when I press F12 I can only see "Windows Boot Manager", supervisor password is set and i have the latest BIOS updated, and disabled secure boot. Am I missing something or this is just the way Acer have created their BIOS? Be advised - I am not very advanced user.

    Thanks in advance :)
