Tutorial for Reapplying Thermal Paste, Helios 500?

Does anyone know of a good tutorial to reapply the thermal past on a Helios 500? My CPU gets in the upper 90's and I would like to reapply the paste and see if it helps.

I did see that video, it was for the Helios 300... I guess it goes the same for the 500? Also, do you void the warranty by doing this? I am in the US. If so, has anyone had Acer reapply thermal paste?

You can apply thermal paste and it would void the warranty. Before any action, contact Acer Support in your region and ensure about the act & warranty avoidance.

Is it a must to apply new thermal pads when doing this?

Depending on the wear of the thermal pads themselves if they are still ok theres no need to replace them and also if you damage any on disassembly you have to have replacements

and i suspect they arent all the same thickness

Do you guys think a max temp of around 97 is too high for the i9 version? I see a lot of posts about the i7 version and the normal temps, but nothing about the i9 version. I feel like I might have paid more for something that won't last as long because of the heat... The CPU usually hovers around 85-90 while playing BF5, but spikes to the upper 90's.

EDIT: I just don't want to take this thing apart to reapply the thermal paste if it won't make a difference. BTW, I am using throttlestop and lowered the voltage by -140.6 mV.

Would it be worth the trouble of a re-paste? I can do it, but it seems like a pain in the rear if it doesn't do much.

Alright, I did it. Temps are now ~10c cooler than they were. I think what was contributing to my issue more than anything, is that whoever put this laptop together did not tighten down one of the screws all the way on the cooler. I put some Arctic M4 on it. I do plan to swap out those pads next, they were a bit rough.

STOPchris personally i would had used kryonaut you would get even better temps and i dunno if you already done it or not but you can undervolt it with TS its better that xtu (as you already done it) and dont forget to also optimize windows if you havent already bare in mind the i9 variant will always be much hotter that the i7 this is the main reason almost everyone went for the i7 instead of the i9 only a few went for the i9 the H500 has one of the best cooling systems around for his class but the i9 its too much for it in my view also the i7 its more than enough for all kind of work

Does anyone know the thermal pad size? I have both 100 and 150. I tried all 150 and the CPU temps shot up. I believe the problem is the 150's are too thick.

STOPchris thats weird the thermal pads shouldnt affect the cpu/gpu temps (they have nothing to do with the heatpipes) they only affect the internal system temps

How would you recommend checking the internal system temps? I got the CPU back down to about 10c cooler. Putting those pads on is a pain in the *****. The problem, is that if you use too think of pads the CPU doesn't come down far enough into contact with the cooler. I put all 100mm pads on and put less thermal paste on the CPU and now the CPU runs cooler. I would still like to check if the pads are working correctly, how do I check the system temps? I used to use Hardware monitor on my PC, but it only shows the CPU and GPU temps with this laptop.

STOPchris the thermal pads would only affect the cpu/gpu temps if they arent the correct ones due to when the heatsink screws are tighten it would leave a small gap between the heatsink and the cpu/gpu diodes but again even if they were 1.0 stock and you used 1.5 they would be squashed down when you tight the screws it wouldnt make much difference (in my view) i know some models use both 1.5 and 1.0 at the same time (the issue is to get them in the exact correct place or the heatsink wouldn't be leveled when the screws are tight) but i havent got a clue about the correct places and theres nothing about the thermal pads in any of the service manuals that i already went through.

PS shows the system temps you can probably also check them with hwinfo or hwmonitor

I don't know why Hardware Monitor is not showing the system temp, but Predator Sense does. I fired up BF5 and my system temp was 35c. I think, I got this nailed down. My temps are about 10c cooler now and the system temp is 35 while gaming, I think that is pretty good. I doubt the CPU temps are ever going to get lower. Maybe with that 60 dollar Kryonaut. I'm sure I'd probably only be looking at ~3c cooler though. I think the 1mm pads are working well, as far as I can tell.

STOPchris if your temps are fine i wouldnt worry about it
