Hello, I am currently using Acer Swift 3 SF314-52-50FX with 256 GB m.2 SATA SSD. I plan to upgrade to 512 GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus or WD Black. So, to confirm whether the laptop has a second slot for SSD or not, I opened up the laptop and checked. It does have an extra m.2 port. Also, I installed HWiNFO and it is showing a PCIe 3.0 port 2x. I plan to use only one SSD of 512 GB capacity.
Now my question is -
  1. whether will it support NVME SSD or not?
  2. If yes, will it work at 4x speed since HWiNFO only showing "Max Link Width" at 2x?
  3. If it supports NVME SSD and at 2x only, should I opt for a PCIe 3.0 2x SSD(maybe WD Blue SN500)?
I would be obliged if someone can answer these.

Thanks,
Sudhanshu

    Hi,
    1. Yes your model supports NVMe SSD.
    2. The SSD will run at half the speed advertised by the manufacturers due to 2 lane restriction.
    3. I can not comment on this as I have never used a PCIe3x2 SSD.

Just received a Western Digital SN750 NVMe 500GB. And can confirm that both m.2 slot i.e. slot-1 and slot-2, both can take NVMe SSD or m.2 SATA SSD. Also, slot-1 is PCIe Gen3 x4, and slot-2 is PCIe Gen3 x2 as observed in HWiNFO. Using the laptop's default m.2 SATA SSD on slot-2. Not sure if we can also use 2 NVMe SSD at the same time. So, overall m.2 NVMe SSD in slot-1 and m.2 SATA in slot-2 is working great.
