When I opened up the back of the laptop, the slot for the m.2 is there, but the screws are missing. Without the screws, I cannot properly secure the SSD in place. The SSD I purchased (can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-2280SS-Internal/dp/B077SQ8J1V/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 ) came with two screws already, but they don't seem to fit. :/
I would highly appreciate some assistance.

Yep... You have found a Acer Standoff from Newegg website and that should certainly work. This standoff should certainly help in threading the screw to the motherboard.

    Hi @Kyradeen

NOTE: It is recommended to use any one of the above recommended SSD in your computer. If you use recommended SSD, the above screw will fit perfectly in your laptop.

    Thank you @Balatekie

Can I still use the Crucial M.2 that I purchased? And if yes, would that screw still work?

M2 x 3mm should suffice. Does it require a longer thread or do you require the stand off too? Have you got a photo of the motherboard showing the M.2 slot

You can use the Crucial M.2 as it meets the technical requirements and it should work. However, there is no tested results with that. As informed earlier, it is recommended to go with tested component details provided.

No need to look for longer thread. That screw should fix correctly with motherboard. Below is the motherboard showing SSD slot. Place for screw is highlighted in red.

@Rob99 @Balatekie This is how mine looks. Has those 3 silver holes but no black screw.

    Is that missing it's standoffs?

@Rob99 Yes. All there is are those three silver holes. No screws or standoffs came with it, apparently.

I request you to please have a look in to this community blog. It has YouTube video showing about M.2 SSD installation.

I'm presuming then that the supplied screws with the Crucial M.2 SSD are not M2 x 3mm

I agree with Balatekie in that a single M2 x 3mm screw should be the correct screw to use. However, I'd of thought though that you would of required a standoff - although I could be wrong - hopefully Balatekie or anyone with the same system can confirm.

Yes I've watched the video and it clearly shows some sort of standoff. Which as you can see on Kyradeen's photo is not present.

Yeah it came with two silver screws. I tried them but they seem to be too small.

I think one M2 x 3 would work. Do you know where I could find one of those?

If you Google M2 x 3mm screw SSD, they can be found on lots of sites inc Ebay, Amazon (also see link below). To be honest I think you may have the correct size screw, it's just that it also requires a stand off to go with it. You could try to measure the screws you have yourself (see link) to save time and money (although they are really cheap to buy).

If you require the correct standoff then hopefully Balatekie or someone else could advise you as I'm not familiar with the correct one sorry.

Just same screw [M2 x 3mm] with standoff as shown on the YouTube video...:)

Okay, so I will need a standoff also. Thanks for clarifying. How I do go about finding the right standoff?

Ok I've been looking around to see if I can find anything out about the correct standoffs to use and it's not great news. Apparently Acer don't have an official part number for them so others have manufactured their own. They have used a M2.5 screw which screws directly into the motherboard. The screw is 6mm in length. They also used a nylon spacer which was cut to fit (by eye).

I really hope someone else can provide an alternative solution because there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there.

    Ah, that's unfortunate :(

Well I found this thread (https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/470477/acer-aspire-e-15-m2-ssd-screw-and-standoff) and tried the solution in the last comment on the page.

Would something like this work? https://m.newegg.com/products/1B4-00E1-00651

Yes that looks like it would work...good find. The M2.5 screws into the hole on the board and then your M2 x 3mm screw goes into the standoff, securing the SSD. Pity it's out of stock though.

Ahh no worries, those standoffs are available on quite a few sites it seems, like eBay. So I can buy it elsewhere :)
