Hiya,
Ever since I bought my Predator Helios 300 laptop I keep running into a lot of moments where the laptop will freeze, if I wait long enough it goes into a black screen.
I keep my eye on the temperature and it's generally cool.
It happens when I'm playing games or doing 3D work, the fans will suddenly become super loud and at that moment I quickly save my work cause I know it will freeze. I don't push the laptop to the limit though with 3D programs because I'm worried of when it will freeze again.

I've ran Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor. The results I get are Critical Events - Realtek HD Audio Background Process has stopped working. At the same time however a Windows Update happens, and all updates have been successful.

I'm quite lost on what to do, I've been reading about disabling automatic windows updates or re-install Realtek drivers (which I'm unsure on how to do) and I just want to get on with my work :(

Would really appreciate the community's help, thank you!!

Note - its been going on for 8 months..I think that's how long I've had it :/

Good coincidental observations! Let's try to control those pesky Win10updates to see what happens.

First, right click the Windows start icon. Click settings. Then Network & Internet. Advanced options. Scroll down and turn metered connection on if not already.

Next, press the WINkey + Rkey. Enter "services.msc" without the quotes. Scroll down the long list and right click on WindowsUpdate. Select properties. In the startup box, change from auto or auto delayed to manual.

    Then report back with results.

    At Jack,

Thank you for all your help!!
Unfortunately what you suggested didn't work in the end :(
This time my Helios froze while I was just on my web browser. After waiting for a while, I got to a black desktop, then everything just turned grey and froze for good.
I might have to look at building a pc and saying goodbye to my laptop :( It's been too troubling.

Thank you again for your help!!

The best way to rule in or rule out a hardware problem is a complete factory re-set outside of Windows using the ALT+F10 cold boot recovery method as shown in the video below. Next best is the same method except trying to save your personal files. Either way, you should backup your personal files before you attempt the ALT+F10 recovery. Jack E/NJ

If that still didn't worked check your temps you might be suffering from a bad thermal paste application i suggest a repaste with a good professional thermal paste if that is the case, either doing it yourself or get acer service to do it with the past you would provide them with as the stock paste it's not good and if bad applied there will always be thermal issues
