These shutdown are not regular they are sudden and only occur when the device is on battery only. I tried resetting the battery via the pin hole provided by the acer but it didnt worked. And I dont think the problem is battery because when it gets turned on the battery percentage is nearly same as the time of shutdown. And found article over internet about overheating creating similar problem but while using google chrome also my device turns off. Is there any explainable reason behind this?

If under warranty, ask Acer for repair.

If you are sure that it never happens when plugged in, then either the battery voltage is dropping too much under moderate load or its internal control/regulator circuitry is reporting the wrong state of charge to the laptop. If you have the ACER Care Center installed (right click the Window start icon in the left taskbar search Acer Care Center), click on check up. Then click on check battery health. Jack E/NJ

I tried checking the battery as your saying and the result said battery status is good. Plus my device produces a sound while these random shutdowns which resemble the sound of resetting the battery using that pinhole(single clicky sound). Does this reset button have something to do with these random shutting down?

Could be if you physically use your laptop differently when plugged in (ie, sitting flat as on a hard desk surface) vs unplugged (ie, sitting in your lap or another surface). There is a mainboard safety switch which is sometimes activated if the case covers aren't properly aligned. The fixes are simple involving tape and spacers. The purpose of the safety switch is to cut all power to the mainboard in the event the covers are removed. The two links below describe the fixes by other users with similar machines. Jack E/NJ

Yes, my device is under warranty but the problem is I am not in the same country where I had purchased the device. And according to Acer, the warranty is not transferrable from country to country. Being on warranty I am afraid to open my device I am thinking of waiting for some days if someone from store to compensate for my warranty

Which store did you get it from? Jack E/NJ

  • The interlock button that JackE's colleague refers to is this; Just remove the compartment covering the HD and RAM:

I do not think opening this compartment violates the warranty! However, if you are not sure about opening this compartment, I suggest that you contact technical support and ask if opening the ram compartment violates the warranty! It is also necessary to check if there is any warranty seal on those screws!

Yes, @egydiocoelho is correct. Just watch out for any warranty sticker seals covering the screws or perhaps affixed to the covers that might be broken/torn if removed. Jack E/NJ

@JackE @egydiocoelho there is a sticker covering one of the screws with violation of warranty if broken. And I exactly don't remember the name of the store but the receipt is safe with my brother in Nepal. (And the device was purchased in Nepal). If this problem gets worse I would open my device anyway. Thanks for your comments.

Go to Power and Sleep settings then to Additional Power Settings and then Change Plan Settings, Pick "Balanced" - you may need to go to Change Advanced Plan Settings to pick Balanced. Then click restore to default. For some reason if you choose battery saver or performance rather than balanced it dies randomly. After resetting every battery setting I could find to default it now doesn't randomly turn off any longer.
