My Acer Predator 17X shows weird blurry lines going up while playing certain games on full screen.

I have the GX-792-77BL and when I play a game like Battlefield 1, there is a blurry line going up as if its an old CRT display but its like... a 4K IPS panel... If I turn off V-Sync or G-sync, I still get the same issue. Ive uninstalled the driver and rolled back to older ones, but that didnt fix anything. I have to play in Windowed mode because Fullscreen and Borderless have that same effect. I tried recording it with the built in software but it wouldnt show up there and the game is perfectly fine when connected to a separate display. This is aswell as my new unit because I sent one in for overheating and Acer sent me new one because they didnt have the parts to repair it. So far when I googled this and it happens on VGA cables when they are near other things because of interference, if this unit is defective, I will try to get a full refund from Amazon and just build a way better PC for 1K less. This is Not a 3K laptop in terms of quality. One other thing, the edges of the display were not pressed in correctly and some parts were sticking out, I had to press it myself(Gently of course) and thats not a really a big issue but if Acer misses something as simple as that, then that goes to show on how their quality team handles expensive products. Hope that this display isnt defective.

I'm thinking if it's fine when connected to another display and doesn't show up during recording it must be a physical issue with the laptop. Maybe the screen cable is borked, got pinched during reassembly or whatever. I'd just return the thing, for 3k that is not the quality you should be getting.

Problem is that Ive had it for a couple of months and before getting this laptop, I returned one from a company named Aorus because the keyboard was low quality and defective. That laptop costed around $2,700 but Amazon was kind enough to accept a full refund even after having it for over 3 months. I'll give it a try :/

It is definitely something wrong which makes the screen act like this, but the weird thing is that it doesn't appear when on windowed mode.

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version. The laptop comes with 1.04v, the latest is 1.05v. And I would also reset the battery by sticking a paperclip in the battery reset pinhole and then leave the laptop( should not be connected to charger) for 10 minutes and then press the power button continuously for 30 seconds. For some reason Acer is not good at dealing with overheating laptops as the technicians don't know how to do a simple thing as applying thermal paste properly. Apparently, they think more paste = better cooling.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I've updated the bios, reset the laptop, and stuck a pin in the hole to reset the battery but it's still the same issue... I think that's it because of a defective G-Sync display since it only happens on full screen mode. Even if I disable G-Sync, the display output still has to go through the G-Sync card which causes that issue, but in windowed mode, Windows handels the display driver which doesn't need it to run through the G-Sync card. I'm pretty sure it is caused by bad wiring on the display which leads to interference from other wires. Im going to call Acer today and see what they say. If I can get a refund, I'm probably gonna get the MSI Stealth and just wait for 8Th gen I7 CPU's to build a PC.

there is no g-synch card in a laptop, it's more like a free sync + marketing.

the GPU is connected via a eDP port directly to the pannel.

Yes, on high end screens you don't actually need a G-sync chip to have G-sync. With older monitor technology the monitors weren't good enough at managing variable refresh rates, so the dedicated G-sync chip was needed, but I don't know if there is any difference between a monitor supporting G-sync without having the chip and a monitor that has one.

    Update...

Amazon didn't accept my refund and the worker I spoke with wasn't really nice and it felt like she didn't believe me when I told her that I have a new unit that's defective. I will try to contact Acer and see what I can do... :/
