W510 keyboard dock repeats letters

Hi

Have had a W510 with keyboard dock for just over a week (bought together).  Updated with all the latest drivers.

I've got a problem with the keyboard.  In anything other than very slow and deliberate typing, it repeats characters frequently and occasionally misses characters.

I read a review that highlighted a similar problem with a full W8 tablet/keyboard dock combination from another manufacturer, so I'm wondering if this is more than just my dock.

Or I suppose it might be a hardware issue, and I need to get it replaced.

Anyone else had the same problem?

If the dock is repeating letters, it is probably a hardware problem with the dock. I would recommend you contact Acer support for your region to inquire about setting your unit up for service.

I have the same problem and I've heard that there are several others with the same problem. I just got my keyboard back from service because my trackpad didn't work. They fixed the trackpad but I really don't want to send it away again. Can anyone from Acer confirm that you are aware of the problem and that there is a hardware fix for it, so it's 100% sure that they can fix it if you send it to service? Just like there is a fix for the trackpad because it works really well now.

I would like to know the answer to this one too.  I have had 2 different units and both show the same symptom

Try booting in safemode or diagnostic mode to rule out conflicting software. Have you reloaded, to see if the problem happens after a reload? Are there a certain key(s) that have the problem? Can you provide specific steps to reproduce? How often does it occur?

I have the same problem (sometimes double repeat letter + occasionally lose character)! I update W510 to version 2.08 and problem not disappear. I reainstall Windows 8 with Oryginal MS ISO + 2.08 drivers  and problem still alive!

No comment Acer. This is mass issue! We have a twenty-first century and you can't produce keyboard! Shame!

Maybe this is software problem with debounce delay. Please try to find and fix it.

I have the same issue and i posted it before, i have changed some options of the keyboard and everything looks like there is a relation with the software.

I don´t know about other people but my problems are repeated letters, lose letters and in some ocassions i write a word but when i press diferent keys, system only reconize the first (example: try to write: play and appear, pppp)

Other problems are that its not posible use keyboard and touchpad at same time,  keyboard has priority when you use both.

The missing keys are in my case caused by "incorrect" way of pressing keys.

If I press the key near any of the buttons four corners, the press gets registered around 20% of the time.

You get the "feedback" that you are used to get from normal keyboards from preessing the key, but the letter just doesn't register.

I tested this by pressing my L button 100 times from lower left corner with normal key pressing strength without gettinng any keystrokes registerred. Only way to not miss any letters is to really HIT the button. I guess this is due to bad desiignn or just cheap materials?

What comess to the repetitive letters, I'm having this issue too.

I got Scandinavian keyboard dock with 32gb model.

Programs I have installed which weren't incuded are:

    Dropbox

    Skype dessktop

    Filezilla

    Firefox

I wrote this post with my W510 and only corrected the missing letters, leaving the repetitive letters untouched.

If i hadn't corrected the missing letters, this text would be pretty much unreadable..

When I got my replacement device the doublekeying happened before anything was loaded.

To reproduce it just type using the keyboard.  Notepad is easier to demonstrate the issue because it does not auto correct

Is there any news on this issue

This is what's happened since I posted my first message.

Acer in the UK replaced the keyboard (which they did very quickly as I was going on an overseas trip).  The new keyboard was almost perfect - it would only very occasionally add an additional character.  Problem was that one of the keys got stuck down after about two days!  It was actually misaligned, so clearly a manufacturing issue.

Acer in Thailand replaced the dock immediately.  Again, great service.  But this replacement is as bad as the original, so it’s unusable.  They applied a patch to the tablet but that didn’t fix the problem.  They also found that one of the keys on the second replacement doc had a mechanical problem.

So they have ordered me another dock. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works.

Interestingly, I tried an external USB keyboard at the Acer service centre.  It worked fine.  I've also tried booting in safe mode, as suggested in one of the posts here.  That didn't help.

I can only confirm that the dock-keyboard on W510 is completly unacceptable. I'm a coder and thus used to type fast but (fairly) accurate. The dock-keyboard is completly useless and until this matter is adressed by the acer support (if even possible) the Acer W510 is a complete waste of money. About 5% of the characters will "double-type". I'll cross my fingers and hope I can refund the unit tomorrow. Purchased today, BIOS-updated. What a waste!

Warning W510. Do not buy W510. Acer w510 problems. Acer buying advice. Stay away.

I'm on dock number four and still have the problem. Must be in the tablet. Have to say that I've lost confidence in an otherwise great product.

A friend of mine and me wrote a little tool that fixed the double input problem for us. It registers key inputs that happen faster than humans can type and just prevents them.

You can download the tool here for free: Prevent Double Typing

Whilst I appreciate what you are saying, Acer has not provided a solution to this widescale problem, so you must expect your customers to try other avenues.

If you can provide me with an Acer approved solution I would be delighted to try it

I can only second that. I was looking for a solution all over the internet and Acer just fails to deliver one.

It turns out that the keyboard that Acer sells with the tablet is just not working. I still can't tell if it's a driver or a hardware issue, but what's for sure is that Windows messages are generated for the key repeats which luckily can be intercepted.

On a side note: You can set the interval of repeated keys that should be intercepted (default is 40ms). You might need to fiddle with it a little.

Let me know if it works for you.

It is a default keyboard/pad; I contacted with the support service, sent the keyboard and in 10 days it was back. With the keyboard there was an internal note saying they had to connect some ground wiring. It seems it was causing the crazy pad movements and the random repeat keys.

Since then, zero problems with the dock.
