How do I turn off the monitor's energy saver and Aspire logo when monitor is turned back on?

I've never had a monitor that took so long to display. Acer's monitor for the Aspire X1930 first displays some energy saver logo (chunky, highly aliased graphics) and then displays "Acer."

Okay, I got it! It saves energy and it's an Acer. But I don't need to know this each time I turn on the monitor.

I like to save energy when I go to eat or take a break, but I like to have my work ready for me the moment I get back. Is there any way to turn off these notifications?

    No, there is not.

I can suggest using a screen saver instead of powering the monitor on and off.

Well, Acer-Tommy, thanks for your fast response! At least I know.

If you are able to, please pass on the suggestion to your development team that at least one customer doesn't like these banners. I can see bottom center of my monitor the "Acer" logo all of the time.

    Thanks again!

As far as I'm aware, there should not be a banner with an Acer logo on your screen at all.

Yes, there are the boot up logos, but they should go away and the entire screen should be usable for you.

Until I purchased my Acer, I had never experienced a separate "boot" screen for the monitor. Yes, the CPU box has its boot screen, but now so does the monitor (a separate pair of screens) -- showing an Energy Star screen and an Acer screen each time I turn on the monitor (even thought the computer (CPU box) has been on the entire time).

I prefer not to use the screen saver feature, because sometimes the screen saver will turn on while I'm reading something or watching a video. So, I turn it off.

Turning off the monitor helps to save some energy when I'll be away for an unknown amount of time (to handle a problem or to have lunch with my wife or to step out of the room). Now, I just leave the monitor on, because I don't like the seconds to wait through the "monitor boot."

    YES!

I found this thread by way of search, because I, too, was hoping for a way to disable the stupid Acer/EnergyStar logos when I turn on my Acer T272hl monitor. It really annoys me having to see and wait for these pointless logos EVERY. TIME. I turn on my monitor.

It also encourages me to keep the monitor on more frequently, rather than turning it off knowing I will have to deal with these logos, which defeats the purpose of "EnergyStar".

Using a screen saver rather than powering off the monitor can't be a good suggestion, can it? Even if it's an all-black screen saver, it will be using a lot more power than if the monitor is turned off. Besides, I often use non-windows software (e.g. backup applications) that do not support monitor power management, which means I have to manually turn the monitor off, because screen savers and power management functionality simply isn't available.

Add my name to the list, I find the energy star and Acer logo maddning.

I am also looking for a way to make my monitor not go to sleep, as the factory setting turns it off way too quickly. Can anyone help Please?

Assuming you run Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose when to turn off the display.

As far as the original issue, can't they release a firmware update for this monitor? Isn't it possible to update the firmware via USB? (Oh, I know it'll never happen even if it is possible.) I just hate how people are such idiots that they buy a monitor, turn it on, see colors, then go rate it with 5 stars everywhere.

    Hi Thanks Crosspatch,

I am using a Mac at the mo. I changed the power settings to turn off in an hour, I think it was set to 5 minutes which was driving me nuts. I assumed the power saver timeout was set on the monitor but it looks like it's controlled by the attached device.

    Cheers,

    C

    Well, Acer-Tommy. Still no solution?

Yes, there is an Acer banner (and Energy Star) screen every time I turn on the monitor. Of course, this happens at boot up, but if you turn on the monitor, first, you'll see the Acer screen and Energy Star, then if you boot the computer, you'll see a separate Acer banner screen.

Turning off the monitor while the computer remains on will repeat this Acer banner and Energy star screens and that's what's annoying.

I also dislike (immensely) the Caps Lock logo in the center of the screen. Dumb! Some people may like it, but too often it gets in the way of the text and it's hard to read what I'm typing.

If you have such "features," have the ability to turn them off.

This is making me not want to buy Acer!

    Imagine that!

The caps lock logo you mention must be displayed by some software you have installed. I've never seen it at all. It's not built into the monitor.

I don't have a caps lock logo eaither.

Crosspatch, I don't know about software. When I bought the machine, new, it came with this "feature." If I remember correctly, this was on every Acer unit in the store when I went back to ask about this feature.

I did a test, swapping out monitors, and it seems to be in the box, rather than the monitor. If it's special software, it must have been installed when the machine was set up (manufacturer?). The retailer couldn't tell me anything about this.

If I turn caps lock on, a gray rectangle with a white image of a lock about an inch and a half tall appears just below the center of the screen. Annoying as all get out. When I turn caps lock off, the lock appears again, but this time unlocked. If the text I'm typing appears behind this image, then I have a hard time reading where I am.

My keyboard tells me when caps lock is on. It's also obvious from what I'm typing. So this extra feature is redundant and a nuisance.

So, back to the Energy Saver / Acer Logo business with the monitor. Perhaps someone from Acer can chime in on this.

    Hi Rod,

Try switching the keyboard, I recon this comes from the driver or some software the keyboard uses.

    Cheers,

    Carl

    Carl,

This is an awesome idea, but my Acer keyboard gave out several weeks ago and I've been using a Logitech keyboard since then. Same problem.

I truly appreciate you offering your thinking cap, though. I'm sure one of us has a solution.

    Thanks,

    Rod

I made an account just to revive this thread. I hate that screen more and more every time I have to wait for it. This is a monitor I use for work and because of this problem I will never buy one for home use. I also talked a friend out of buying this sort of monitor. Acer, is this really nessisary every single time?

I just timed how long the monitor took to get past the screens and the time it took for my chromebook to boot up. 12.5 seconds for the acer monitor. Seriosly. 11 seconds for the chromebook to boot up from being compleatly turned off. I hear newer chromebooks take as little as 5 seconds. Why does my monitor take twice as long to start up than some computers?

Hah, it's almost funny how many people hate this issue. I wonder how many more never think to visit this forum.

I dumped my T272hl months ago, because this issue irritated me one too many times. And now I know to look into this before spending my money on a new monitor again.

Big companies don't care about us users. It would take hundreds if not thousands of users for them to take notice, I think.

This is my first Acer Monitor! I spent a little more than I usually do because it is a gaming monitor (GN246HL). I think if this is what I am going to have to deal with every time I turn my monitor on and off, I think it will be my last Acer.

Another bump from a first-and-last time Acer owner (G257HU).  The splash screen aggravates me more than any dead pixels or image quality issues could.  I hate this monitor and tell people to avoid this brand because of it.

Hello All.  I spotted this thread and wanted to let you know that someone submitted an Idea in the Community Ideas Forum here a few months ago regarding a request to disable the splash screens on monitors at start up.  We escalated that to the monitor design team and they saw it as very positive feedback.  They have informed me today that they have already begun making changes to our monitor firmware to allow the user to disable the start-up splash screens, if that is your preference.  This firmware change is already starting to appear on some monitors and will continue to be a feature in new devices as we go forward.  Feedback is SUCH a good thing!  Thanks all.
