Aspire XC-705 & Win 10 Anniversary update issues

My XC-705 has recently updated itself with the Win 10 Anniverery update to version 1607, and since then it's been causing problems.

 

Initially after booting, everything runs ok for a few minutes, but after 3 or 4 minutes whatever you are using, Edge, Explorer, email, office etc - will all stop, sometimes the app says "not responding" for a minute or so then it will re-start. If using any browser, some pages load ok, others will continuely fail to load. Unable to browse to secure pages.

 

Having looked on the acer support site, and it seems that the XC-705 isn't listed as being compatible with the Win 10 anniversary update - but it still downloded it without my requesting it or being offered the option to refuse it.

 

Is there a way to either fix this or revert back to the previous version?
