Aspire Switch 10 touch pad freezes

Greetings.

Have been experiencing this issue for some time now, and still not found a resolution.

I have an Aspire Swich 10 (SW5-012-13TT-US).

Occasionally, the touchpad stops responding for the most part (though if in a window that has a scroll bar, it can still scroll, however, tapping does not work at all). When this happens, the cursor for the touchpad also vanishes completely, and I am forced to navigate with the keyboard.

I can use the keyboard to disable the touch-screen, and the cursor comes back and acts normally, but if I re-enable the touch screen after a moment it goes wonky again.

You'll notice in the screenshot, the three dots just to the left of center - this is often what becomes of the touchscreen "cursor" when it freezes, and this does not vanish until the touchscreen is disabled.

I was hoping that upgrading to Windows 10 would resolve this issue, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

This happens when the system is stock, except for the antivirus software, as well.

It is possible that it is something in the driver conflicting with the antivirus software, I suppose, I have tried both Norton (a couple of different editions) and Symantec Endpoint Protection (a couple of different releases). EDIT: I just experienced the problem after uninstalling the AV software again and rebooting.

The most reliable way I know of to reproduce this is to just open Acer Recovery Management and tap "Reinstall Drivers or Applications" (not certain if the tap is required, but that's where it seems to most frequently freeze up).

This is the only device, however, on which this happens. Is there a driver update for the touch-screen driver? I was unable to find any details on the driver files used by the touch-screen.

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

I have exactly the same problem with an Aspire Switch SW5-171. Following the instructions of an Acer tech on chat, I refreshed the system (driver reinstallation) to no avail, and then I reinstalled Windows, which didn't work either. I submitted a repair request, but I only got a reply to contact Acer by phone.

The freezes can usually be resolved by putting the system to sleep and disconnecting and reconnecting the table from the keyboard. Freezes happen more often, but not exclusively, when using browsers. If this were a driver issue, I would agree with your comments, and an updated driver might resolve it, but I suspect it's  a hardware issue with some kind of intermitent operation of the touchpad, because USB mice connected to the keyboard USB port work perfectly consistently all the time with my unit, and because the freezes can be resolved temporarily by the steps I mentioned above.

Acer ought to test units for this issue and release an updated driver if it's established that interference with other software is the problem. Otherwise, the detachable touch pad/keyboard must be replaced under warranty.

FIXED: Aspire Switch SW5-171 Touch pad problem. (May apply to Switch 10, too)

Acer released a firmware update for the Synaptics touch pad that fixes all freezing and selection/dragging not working issues. The update is available here

    http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/Firmware/Firmware_Synaptics_1.17_A_A.zip?acerid=635866319308740637&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE SWITCH 11&Step3=SW5-171&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

The update was released on 12/25/15, but up to today it stil doesn't show up on the Updates section in Acer Care Center, as one would expect it did.

    Hello!

I have exactly the same issue and sometimes it is just impossible to use the computer, even if I turn off/turn on.

I cannot control anything when it happens, and it lasts long time... It begins to be annoying because it happens more often now.

I bought this computer last July in France and I am currently in Australia for a long period and I don't know what to do at all...

I can't even open Acer Recovery Management.

Have you found a solution for this issue?

Thank you very much for your help,

    Aurora
