Acer Aspire R7-572 Touch Screen Glitching Out

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire R7-572-6423 touchscreen notebook.  It works great for the most part except for the touchscreen seems to glitch out every once in a while.  What happens is out of nowhere the touch screen will start registering a click in the very upper left corner of the screen (as seen by the Windows 8 touch visual feedback) even though I am not touching the screen.  The clicking happens very fast (several times a second) and makes the notebook unusuable.

I can make the clicking stop by touching and holding my finger on the screen near where the clicking is happening.  However, as soon as I lift my finger, the clicking resumes.

To fix the issue, I have to do a touch screen calibration (Windows settings -> Tablet PC Settings -> Calibrate -> Touch input).  However, the calibration appears to be off using this method (I cannot swipe the windows 8 bar to the right) so I then do a calibration reset (Tablet PC Settings -> Reset).  This generally resolves the issue for a while.

I have tried moving the screen into different positions and cleaning the screen but the issue still comes back on occassion.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That sounds like there may be a problem with either the touch panel or digitizer on the screen.

My best recommendation would be to contact support in your region for assistance.

I've bought 3 of these for family member. The last one I got had the same issues. I call acer support and they said we'll send you a new one. This is a hardware issues. Don't wate time trying to fix it. The sensor is sending false information to the processor. This system was so bad I couldn't even input anything. I did a factory reset and sent it back as per acer's direction.

    All the best.

I have had the same problem - have read through as many fixes as I could find, some worked for a while, touch screen would work for an hour or more then stop, on reboot it might or might not come back.  Totally erradict behavior. Never received any error messages or reports in the event log.  Trouble shooting hardware does not see any problem.

unchecked the box in all USB device properties  that says "allow turn off to save power"   as advised - Did not help.

In device manager the HID touch screen would show up as working. (It wasn't)  Several fixes I read advised disabling then enabling the driver.  I worked but only for a while.  Re-checked the Device Manager - now HID Touchscreen is dimmed and properties tell me the hardware is not connected!  There is no option to re-connect.

I shut the computer down - too frustrated to continue.  Next day I turned it on and touchscreen worked for a second and stopped.

Now the Device Manager does not even show the HID Touchscreen unless I click "view show hidden devices"

I called Acer Support - they told me to do a factory reset if that didn't work (it didn't) I would have to send it in for repair.

I guess I'll have to do that.  Was Acer able to fix your notebook?

After many days of trouble shooting this problem, and deciding to send mine in for repair, I did a general search on "touchscreen problems" from Acer to Toshiba, people were having similar problems - in most cases they said their touchscreen failed after they updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.  As mine came with 8.1 installed I have no way of checking.  So I would be very interested to know if Acer was able to fix yours. Please let me know. I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you

The issue occurs randomly for me.  I can go weeks with no problems but then suddenly it will happen every few hours.   I can usually fix the issue by putting my computer to sleep then waking it up.

I depend on my laptop for school so I've been reluctant to send it in.  I just finished classes so I plan to send it in for repair in the next week or so.  Thankfully, the laptop has a 1 year warranty.

    Hi,

Has anyone managed to fix this touch screen glitch without sending the unit for repare? It is really annoing and it happens totaly at random... it is very likely that when I will send it back for waranty I will not to be able to reproduce the issue... and in Romania they do not really take the customer word that this really happens. Also I cannot return it because until the issue became clear the return period has past.

It happens totally at random... sometime will register one touch an hour... sometimes it register a touch every second in the same area o the screen (left edge). When the "ghost touches" start it is impossible to work on it unless the touch screen driver is disabled.

I have tried the following without results:

    1. Calibrate => works for a few hours usually. The longest period during which worked was 2 weeks. During these two weeks it was never restarted... only placed in hibernate mode.

    2. Enable/disable the touch screen driver. => no effect

    3. Uninstall the driver->reinstall the driver. => no effect

    4. Shut down, restart, sleap, hibernate... none have any efect.

    4. Restore factory defaults. => worked for a day then it started again.

Unfortunatelly nothing works for more than a few hours and it starts having the same problem again.

The other method to make this behavior stop is to press for a few seconds the area of the screen where the "ghost touches" are registered.

Any other advice how to proceed?

Try downloading the touchscreen/ pen drivers from the N-trig website (the R7-572 uses N-trig hardware).

    http://www.n-trig.com/downloads-drivers/

They have the model # listed as "Aspire RF-572" (I think this is a typo).  I haven't had any more touchscreen glitches since I did this.

    Hope this helps!

I still have the zip file with the drivers I have downloaded a few months ago but unfortunatelly I cannot attach them here. Therefore I have placed them somewhere else: http://www.filedropper.com/aspirer7

Thank you, you're a lifesaver! I was actually considering to physically replace my N-trig DuoSense 54-50-00088-03 circuit board before applying your officail .zip with N-trig DuoSense Multi-touch Package for Acer Aspire R7-572...

It's an absolute must have for all who happened to replace their touch screen assembly OR those having glitching issues!

It's a real shame that the N-trig.com site is no longer awailable. Yet, thanks to the Acer Community enthusiasts around the globe we can still have the much needed support for our devices!

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

I have posted again the drivers. Hope it will help... i do not understand why Acer is not posting the drivers on their support site.

    http://www.filedropper.com/aspirer7

And this is not the only driver with problems on this laptop. I had similar problems with the Broadcom drivers for the Wifi card of this laptop. All drivers for the wireless card have a bug and it disconnects the network after an hour or so. The only driver that works well is not on Acer site. Smiley Sad

Thank you for the driver. I also cannot understand why this driver for the touch screen is not on the acer site.

I know this is not part of the topic, but do you have an idea why my ESC key, the special key FN and the combinations with it and several F keys sometimes are not working? I tried reinstallation with and without Acer Software, but I think the Acer Launcher is at least necessary for the FN key and the functions of it. I don`t see a pattern why it sometimes works when I start the device and sometimes not.

I had the same problems with my Acer Aspire R7-572, (Windows 8.1) I tried everything that was suggested including the N-trig drivers.  They helped some what but every now and then the touchscreen would stop working, or display the ghost clicks that others have talked about.

I decided not to send it in for repair just live with it.  Then I upgraded to Windows 10.  During the upgrade it said the N-trig drivers were not necessary and they were uninstalled.  I have not had any problems since then with the touch screen or anything else.   Hope this helps.
