On-The-Go (OTG) on B1-730HD????

I have an Iconia One 7 (B1-730HD) tablet running 4.4.2 KitKat. All software is up to date. I'm trying to mount a microSDHC card to the microUSB slot using a USB card reader and a USB to microUSB adapter. The card won't mount with the tablet reporting that the removable media is "damaged". The notification suggests formatting the microSDHC card, but the tablet won't format. I formatted the microSDHC card on Windows Vista using SDFormatter 4.0. I ran chkdsk on Windows without any errors.

Acer has told me that the tablet doesn't support OTG. They wouldn't recommend a solution that involves rooting the tablet. So I think that there might be a solution.

I have done some work using apps downloaded from Google Play to determine if the tablet supports OTG. The following are the results.

USB OTG Checker reported the following when "Check Device OS on USB OTG" was tapped. " Your Device OS has USB OTG API! You can try to proceed to <Check USB OTG Signal> to check for USB OTG Kernel or Driver Signal."

"Check USB OTG Signal" reported "System NOT Detect USB OTG Signal".

USB Host Diagnostics reported:

Androit API

   Claims Support      Yes

   Classes Found       Yes

   Device Detected   Yes

Rooted API

   Claims Support      N/A

   Device Detected    N/A

Kernel

   Claims Support      Yes

   Device Detected    Yes

Verdict

   OS Support          Yes

   3rd party apps      Full

OTG Troubshooter Reported:

USB Host Support  Yes

OTG Detected Yes

Mass Storage USB Device Detected in Linux  Yes

Mass Storage USB Device Detected in Android

All OK

Your USB device should be compatible with "Nexus Media Importer" and "Nexus Photo".

So those are the diagnostics. Can anybody confirm that USB OTG Checker, USB Host Diagnostics and OTG Troubshooter are accurate? The tablet does recognize that storage has been connected. Perhaps a different type of removable storage would work. Can anybody link to instructions to enable support of OTG?

USB OTG can have some problems with card reader if it asks more voltage than the OTG supported.

if you card reader is a multi-card reader it will not work, try to use an USB flash drive.

Thanks. I do have a multicard reader. It will take a while to get a flash drive. If it works, I'll mark your  reply as a soluton.

Are you aware of any limitation on the size of a flash drive that could be connected to the drive using OTG?

I connected a 16GB USB 2.0 flash drive to the microUSB slot using a USB-to-microUSB adapter. The tablet recognizes the flash drive. I can navigate through the directories of the flash drive using Astro. I'm able to read books and play video stored on the flash drive. I had to stop and start Astro and FBReader, but overall the flash drive seems to working properly with the tablet.

Although I have marked  this thead as solved, I have another question. I would still like to connect MicroSDHC cards to the microUSB slot on the tablet. There are several card readers on the market that provide this function. There is a Leef Access reader and a Plugable reader. The Plugable reader also has a USB 2.0 plug. They don't specifically state that they will work on Acer B1-730HD.

Does anybody have any experience connecting MicroSDHC to the table using the microUSB port? Can anybody recommend a reader?
