I have an Iconia One 7 (B1-730HD) tablet running 4.4.2 KitKat. All software is up to date. I'm trying to mount a microSDHC card to the microUSB slot using a USB card reader and a USB to microUSB adapter. The card won't mount with the tablet reporting that the removable media is "damaged". The notification suggests formatting the microSDHC card, but the tablet won't format. I formatted the microSDHC card on Windows Vista using SDFormatter 4.0. I ran chkdsk on Windows without any errors.
Acer has told me that the tablet doesn't support OTG. They wouldn't recommend a solution that involves rooting the tablet. So I think that there might be a solution.
I have done some work using apps downloaded from Google Play to determine if the tablet supports OTG. The following are the results.
USB OTG Checker reported the following when "Check Device OS on USB OTG" was tapped. " Your Device OS has USB OTG API! You can try to proceed to <Check USB OTG Signal> to check for USB OTG Kernel or Driver Signal."
"Check USB OTG Signal" reported "System NOT Detect USB OTG Signal".
USB Host Diagnostics reported:
Androit API
Claims Support Yes
Classes Found Yes
Device Detected Yes
Rooted API
Claims Support N/A
Device Detected N/A
Kernel

Verdict

OTG Troubshooter Reported:

Mass Storage USB Device Detected in Linux Yes
Mass Storage USB Device Detected in Android
All OK
Your USB device should be compatible with "Nexus Media Importer" and "Nexus Photo".
So those are the diagnostics. Can anybody confirm that USB OTG Checker, USB Host Diagnostics and OTG Troubshooter are accurate? The tablet does recognize that storage has been connected. Perhaps a different type of removable storage would work. Can anybody link to instructions to enable support of OTG?
