Acer V13 Touchpad issue

Hello! I've just recently bought a new Acer V13 (V3-371) which is running Windows 8.1. From the very first start my touchpad has not been working properly. It randomly freezes. Sometimes it unfreezes itself if I'm moving my fingers across the touchpad sometimes not. Then I have to press FN+F7 two times and then it's working again. Is this hardware problem or software? Do I need to download a driver?  I haven't found any touchpad driver for this particular laptop.
Thanks for help in advance!!!

Same exact problem.  Very annoying.  I didn't know about the Fn-F7 method of recovering it, though... so thanks for that tip.  I'm going to venture and say this is a software/driver issue.  Acer?  Anything to say regarding this matter?

    Hi there,

Yes there is no available driver on the acer site as ELAN or Synaptics is like a third party software..
You may check it on your mouse properties under device settings.

If your touchpad is just disabling on its own or sometimes freezing then will go ok again
thats a software fault only .. driver reloading or doing  a factory reset will fix this.

    Note:

If this issue just started few days ago or just 1-2 weeks ago
try running system restore on the machine and choose the date when the touchpad is working fine with no problems
as this is a possible update problem only.

If your touchpad is just Disabling on its own and you need to turn it on again by pressing Fn+7
its a possible softward or hardware.. if doing the troubleshooting steps above wont work.

You need to call Acer for assistance of repair for touchpad board replacement.

As I said it started from the first start up after I've bought it. So I guess neither System Restore (which I tried to the earliest point, just in case) nor resetting it to factory settings would solve the problem.
I think its not disabling itself since I have to press Fn+F7 two times (to reset it not turn it back on).

Anyway, I was happy to find out that Acer released the Synaptics driver for the touchpad. However It did not solve the issue. Touchpad still freezing. I guess I'll be calling Acer for repair. I feel reluctant to do so though, since I've bought this laptop just two weeks ago. Smiley Sad

I install the new driver (Synaptics) from Acer's support page, but this changes nothing. I think that the system is still using the old Microsoft  generic driver for "HID compliant touch pad".

Can anybody from Acer support help ?

Same problem. Bought a week ago, cursor started to freeze at random the second time I turned on the machine.  I bought a wireless mouse, which worked for a day or so, then the same problem occurred. Updates did not work. Anyone has an idea what this is? It stopped working three times while I'm writing this. I'm half determined to just smash the thing and buy something decent for the insurance money.

I have the same issue on newly bought laptop. Tried to uninstall stock Windows driver and install driver from Synaptic, but it didn't help. Stock Windows driver is still used. Anyone have  found a solution? It's really annoying, Acer should release a fix for this!!

I too have similar problems on my E5-572G-59UY.

Allthough my mouse only freezes when I try to scroll, either by two finger gesture or holding down and pulling the scrollbar. Extremly frustrating.

I also have trouble verifying that I use the correct drivers. The computer automaticly installed synaptics drivers, but the device manager only states that I have a HID compatible mouse, no mention on wich vendor. I´ve tried the "HWVendor detection" program but the only listed hardware is LAN.

    Hello guys,

I called Acer customer service and they recommended running Windows updates everytime any are available, whether important or not. After I did this two or three times, the problem disappeared completely.

    Hope this helps you too.

I also find the same problem. I think it's not software or driver problem. it seem hardware problem, where the chase around touhcpad too tinny. just check,  pull the chase around touchpad little harder (left or righ of touchpad).  when you pull it, the cursor will be stop moving, or hang if your OS is windows 8.1. If your use OS like ubuntu, so you cursor will move randomly like a crazy one when you pull hard the chase. But if you are using wireless mouse, cursor will move normally even you pull the chase harder. Acer should replace the chase with the rigid one. By the way, in my country there is an anecdote about ACER brand. ACER has long name "Akan CEpat Rusak" with mean that It Will be broke soon. Smiley Very Happy

Mine went back to Acer for repair. They replaced a cable and performed a bios upgrade. Problem solved.

Hi. I was about to get this unit a while ago but Acer informed me that stocks were pulled out due to this touchpad issue. However, when I went to another store, I saw them selling this unit. I informed them of this "defect" but they do not have any knowledge of it. I looked at manufacturing date and it states August 2014.

May I know what are the manufacturing dates of your units to confirm whether the unit that the other store is selling is not affected by this touchpad issue? Many thanks!

I assume no solution for this has arrived... Did anyone try downgrading to Windows 7? Do you think it would help?

at first ithought it was software issue, so i tried to download some possible drivers. however, later on i recognize that must be hardware issue. i don't know what to do. i dont want to let my brand new laptop to customer care service. In Vietnam this department work like **bleep**.
