The Iconia A700 worked well for 14 months and one day when Battery was low, we turned it off and charged the battery till fully charged (Whit light). Then when we removed it from charger, we tried to turn it on, nothing happened. No power light, no vibration, no screen logo. I noticed the unit got warm as if the power was getting to the inside controller. I waited and it styae warm till the battery was spent. I charged again and tried to turn it on the light went from White to orange and nothing happened again. I tried reset and holding the On button and vloume buttons (Tried both), nothing happened. I opened the unit and checked for smoke, burn marks and broken connection, etc. All looked great and clean. Imeasured the battery and it was fully charged and try to turn the system on and saw chips getting warm and measured battery undr load and it was OK. I got a brand new batter and it behave exactly the same as the original battery (The Battery is not cheap) Here is summary:

  • Unit was working well before, no indication of problem.
  • Battery charges and holds charge.
  • No power light if not connected to charger
  • The unit warms up as if controller working
  • No display
  • No vibration
  • no sound
  • New battery behaved the same.
  • Screen is good
  • Digitizer is good
  • There are two other boards. I will have to eliminate those as problem.

My conclusion is that the controller logic card is bad. I am puzzled why the power light does not come on when not connected to charger.

Any body who has had experience with  the smae issue please share. I will update this post as I am determined to fix the tablet. I am contemplating:

  • Buying dead units and use for parts or
  • Buy one with broken screen and swap parts.

It looks like a dead board.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Additiuonal thought to, perhaps, shed light:

The big question is why the power light does not turn on when fully charged and not connected.

Does the controller controll the light too? I assumed it did not and that the charging circuiot was all separate.

Is it possible that the controller is good but the display logic is bad?

The vibrate does not work either.

The unit does not seem dead or bricked as people so fondly say.

My A700 did something similar recently. Just short of 2 years of good service, it would not power up.  The battery charged okay, as indicated by the amber charging light, then white when completed.  But pressing the power button did nothing - no screen, no vibration, nothing.

I tried all combinations of reset, volume and power buttons with not luck.

I loved the HD screen on the tablet, but the performance was marginal, even with Cyanogenmod.  I have an LG 8.3 that I use now, so decided to give up on the A700.

Disappointing.  Makes me leery of another Acer.

I am pretty sure your unit has a bad controllr board. I priced them and they are $200 t0 $258 range. Also I checked with repair places and they charge $200 minimum plus shipping. Acer sight was very difficult to navigate for a guy who just wants his unit repaired. After several gymnastics, I got a price of $179. I am determined to fix my son's unit. I am hoping that I can find a person with cracked screen and then I can buy it and use the controller board or substitute my screen.

Actuall when we bout our unit, we liked the overall cost benefit of the unit. It is good on battery life, nice screen, reasonably good camera and being an android. I am leaning toward Samsung Glaxy for my next unit, I will look at LG as well. I was not impressed with the first Microsoft surface other than its superb packagin and mechanical design. They put in a one MP camera in a unit that was $800. Mine was a gift and I could not complain. It is crazy that these guys got into the game so late and yet did so many things wrong. They should learn from Apple.
