Acer Aspire 5253 no power no boot

I'm helping a lwoman with her Acer notebook. She bought, it had this issue shortly after purchase, sent it in for warranty repair, came back with same issue. Unfortunately she didn't get back to the issue and her warranty expired this last June. Googling the issues it seems this is a comman issue for this notebook. I've done the 30 second thing. Power jack is not loose, and power supply tests good with DVM. She's since bought a 2nd power supply and battery. Still no go. Any other suggestions?

It sounds to me that the issue is beyond the normal items to test.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

That's how I ended up here in the community forums. I'm truley having a hard time finding any way to talk about the options for this notebook, without a charge for support. Honestly this is where the owner got frustrated, even though it was under warranty at the time, she states she was told call all these different numbers and each one would send her to another number. Is there a US contact, where I can email or call and discuss options for repair without being charged for an incident? I'm not seeing one on the USA site.

Very grateful this was resolved. I'm told the laptop is functioning fine at this point. Much appreciated!

Hi I have a Aspire 5250 and it will not turn on or charge at all.  I am wondering if anyone could help. There is NO warranty on the laptop anymore. The battery went down to 7% and I shut it off and now I can not get it up and running or anything. I am wondering if the battery is drained and need to be replaced but I dont want to buy a new battery and find out that it is shot and I dont know if i could return the battery for refund.....Any suggestions

That's an interesting rig you have there. It's a trimmed-down version of a different low-end model. Generally, it runs well, though, and one person reports buying one for $199. You might have a two-ýear warranty, but you might have owned it more than two years.

Therw are many possible reasons why it won't turn on. You can take it to a repair shop and see what they say. But considering the value of the machine, you might be better off buying a newer low-end model that will be more powerful than this one.

I am having the same issue. Purchased a new battery and this crappy laptop still doesn't power on. I'm guessing the motherboard will have to be replaced..cost is $70.  Here's a link to purchase parts: http://www.laptopinventory.com/Laptop_Model.php/Acer/Aspire/5253

Did you have a strobing blue led on front-left of the machine? Thanks.

Same problem with my 722-0473, just over a year old. Started with the flashing lights, I took the battery out, unplugged, tried to reset the power. Now it is totally dead. Took it to Radio Shack they tested my cord charger and even plugged a new cord in. No go still dead. What do I do?

I researched your problem, and here is what I came up with. There are several possible explanations, but the number 1 reason why a computer won't turn on is....it isn't turned on. Make sure it is plugged in, all power switches are on, your surge protector is on, etc. Plug a lamp into the outlet you're using to make sure it works.

The #2 reason it won't start is that the power supply unit (located inside the laptop) has failed.

#3 is that the power button is damaged.

#4 is that the CPU has failed.

#5 is that the motherboard has failed.

In other words, if #1 doesn't work, you need to take it to a shop.

Yeah, it's on, outlets work, when I took it to Radio Shack they tested it too. Thanks for the answer. When the problem started the battery just kept losing charge till it went dead. Guess maybe Best Buy next.

Took it to Best Buy. They say it is dead. The motherboard died. Just a little over a year old. I am very disappointed with all of this. Thank goodness I backed up to an external hard drive. I had a once in a lifetime vacation. Unfortunately I edited the pics on the Acer but the unedited ones are on the external drive. Going to have to start all over. Just can't believe I only got a little over a year's worth out of that computer. Now I need to really research before I make a mistake again when buying a new one.

I have the what I believe to be the same problem, could you share the information that you seemed to give privately to the other user? We have two of these laptops that this has happened with. However, I am getting power, but not able to boot and only see black screen.

Thanks so much  in advance for your help.

Carrie, when you say that you only see the black screen, do you mean that you do not see the Acer logo screen at all? MAYBE you have accidentally turned off your monitor. Look for a key on your keyboard with a picture of a monitor on it. Press Fn and that key. If that doesn't work, look for a key with either a sun, light bulb, or glowing light, and press Fn plus that key.

If neither method works, shine a flashlight into the monitor and see if you can see an image. If you can, probably your backlight has failed.

You can also try to borrow a legal copy of your operating system. Put it into the DVD drive and reboot. MAYBE it will take you to a visible screen with repair options.

What did the technician tell you to do in the email? Because I am having the same issue and I would like to be on my computer for the first time in four months.
