Hello! I'm currently on Acer Aspire 5 A515-45 (That's all, checked on Detection Utility) R5 5500U, bought back in 2021.

Is there any way I can install 4TB Storage in this little guy? Either in the SATA or NVME slot. Also, I'm already on 24GB 3200Mhz, but I'm still thinking on upgrading it too.

I just saw an Amazon site selling the same A515-45 but with R7 5700U, giving spec option of 40GB RAM 4TB NVME. I wondered if in any way I could do the same to my laptop.

Amazon.com: acer Aspire 5 A515-45 - 2023 New Laptop - 15.6" FHD IPS - 8-Core AMD Ryzen 7 5700U - 40GB DDR4 4TB SSD - AMD Radeon Graphics - Wi-Fi 6 - Backlit Keyboard - Win10 Pro - CCG 32GB USB : Electronics

Thank you in advance!

    Hi Dignitas

Acer Aspire 5 A515‑45 — RAM & SSD Upgrade Guide

Your R5‑5500U model shares the same chassis and platform as the R7‑5700U variant, so the physical upgrade limits are similar. The “24 GB RAM / 2 TB storage” figures you’ve seen are Acer’s validated maximums — but in practice, higher capacities can work if the modules/drives meet the same specs.

    🖥 RAM

    • Slots: 1× soldered DDR4‑3200 (8 GB) + 1× SO‑DIMM slot.
    • Current: 8 GB onboard + 16 GB in slot = 24 GB.
    • Possible: Users have installed 32 GB in the slot for a total of 40 GB. Stability depends on using a quality DDR4‑3200 SO‑DIMM from a reputable brand.
    • Tip: Match DDR4‑3200 speed. Mixed sizes are fine, but dual‑channel runs only on the matching portion.

    💾 Storage

    • M.2 NVMe slot: PCIe 3.0×4. Acer specs say up to 2 TB, but 4 TB NVMe drives (2280 form factor) have been used successfully.
    • 2.5″ SATA bay: Accepts up to 7 mm‑thick SSD or HDD. You could add a 4 TB SATA SSD here if you need even more space.
    • Tip: If installing both NVMe and SATA drives, check BIOS for boot order after the swap.

    🔧 Upgrade steps (overview)

    1. Back up your data.
    2. Power off, unplug, and remove the bottom cover (small Phillips screws).
    3. For RAM — release the clips and insert the new module at a 30° angle.
    4. For NVMe — remove the screw, swap the drive, and secure it before reassembly.
    5. For SATA — connect drive to caddy, attach cable, seat in bay, then secure.
    6. Reassemble, boot, and check BIOS/Windows for detection.

    ⚠️ Notes:

    • Use an anti‑static strap or ground yourself before handling components.
    • Keep the original parts in case you need warranty service.
    • While higher‑than‑spec upgrades often work, they’re unofficial — proceed with care.

This laptop supports 20GB total RAM (up to 16GB in the user accessible slot). DDR4 3200MT/s Non-ECC Unbuffered SODIMM CL22 1RX8 1.2V 260-pin 16Gbit is recommended by Kingston: Memory for a Acer - Aspire 5 - A515-45-xxx - Kingston Technology

    Hi Dignitas,

For RAM and SSD upgrades, brand choice matters — especially when pushing beyond Acer’s official specs. Here are some trusted options:

🧠 RAM Brands (DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM) You’re aiming for 32 GB in the slot to hit 40 GB total. These are reliable:

    • Crucial: CT32G4SFD832A — Micron-backed, widely compatible🔗 Crucial’s site for your A515-45
    • Kingston: KVR32S22D8/32 — ValueRAM series, solid performance
    • Corsair Vengeance: CMSX32GX4M1A3200C22 — premium, good thermals

💾 SSD Brands You’ve got two upgrade paths: NVMe (PCIe Gen3) and SATA 2.5″.

    • NVMe SSD (M.2 2280) — PCIe 3.0×4 slot
      • Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB — Gen3 native, DRAM cache, excellent reliability
      • WD Black SN770 2TB — budget Gen4 drive, works well in Gen3 slots
      • Crucial P3 Plus 2TB — Gen4-capable, decent performance for the price
    • SATA SSD (2.5″, 7 mm thick)
      • Samsung 870 EVO V-NAND 2TB — top-tier endurance and compatibility
      • Crucial MX500 2TB — AES encryption, good value

🛠️ Tip: After installing both drives, check BIOS boot order and confirm detection in Windows. And always ground yourself before handling components.

Let me know if you want help sourcing local pricing or installation visuals.
