Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with my laptop when trying to switch to NVIDIA GPU Display Mode. Every time I select this option, my screen goes black, and the system completely freezes. The only way to recover is by force restarting the computer.

I've tried:

  • Waiting for a few minutes to see if it recovers (it doesn't).
  • Checking if the NVIDIA drivers are up to date.
  • Restarting and switching back to Optimus mode, which works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have the Nitro AN16-41? For the Nitro AN16-41, BIOS update version 1.25 is available. It addresses issues related to NVIDIA display mode. Updating your BIOS will likely resolve the problem.

Friends, I still have the same problem despite the latest bios update. Do you have any information about the source of this?

Switching to NVIDIA GPU display mode can sometimes lead to a black screen and freeze on laptops, particularly when using Advanced Optimus or manual switching via the NVIDIA Control Panel. This issue is often linked to driver problems, MUX switch behavior, or compatibility issues between the integrated and dedicated GPUs.

Here's a breakdown of the causes and potential solutions:
    Causes:
    Driver Conflicts:
Outdated, corrupted, or incompatible NVIDIA drivers can disrupt the communication between the integrated and dedicated GPUs, causing the display to fail.
    MUX Switch Problems:
Laptops with a MUX switch (which allows direct connection of the display to the NVIDIA GPU) can experience issues when switching modes, especially if not done through the manufacturer's recommended software (e.g., Armoury Crate).
    Advanced Optimus Glitches:
Features like Dynamic Display Switch (DDS) in Advanced Optimus can sometimes cause freezes or black screens when switching between GPUs, particularly on certain laptop models.

    Hardware Issues:
In some cases, hardware problems like overheating or power supply issues could also contribute to the freezing.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1. Update Drivers:
Ensure both the integrated and NVIDIA GPU drivers are up to date. Use the official NVIDIA website or your laptop manufacturer's support site.
    2. Clean Driver Installation:
Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode to completely remove old drivers before installing new ones. This helps prevent conflicts.
    3. Check BIOS and Manufacturer Software:
Confirm you have the latest BIOS version and are using the manufacturer's software (like Armoury Crate) to manage GPU switching.

    4. Disable DDS:
In the NVIDIA Control Panel, if you're using Advanced Optimus, consider disabling Dynamic Display Switch (DDS) and manually setting the display mode.
    5. Test in Safe Mode:
Boot into Safe Mode (which uses basic drivers) to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, it strongly suggests a driver or software conflict.
    6. Monitor Temperatures:
Check GPU temperatures using tools like GPU-Z to rule out overheating issues.
    7. Contact Support:
If the problem persists, contact your laptop manufacturer's support for further hardware diagnostics.

Well the issue usually lies in graphics driver conflicts, BIOS settings, or hardware compatibility problems. Well you can try the following:

Use DDU to Clean and Reinstall Drivers
Try to Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Avoid Forcing NVIDIA-Only Mode Unless Necessary

Go to Acer’s Drivers page, enter your laptop model, and download the latest NVIDIA driver. Check BIOS version, If outdated, get the correct update from Acer's support page and follow their instructions carefully.
