Hello,
I have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 laptop, 14th Gen, with the following specs:

  • Core i9-14900HX
  • RTX 4060 8GB
  • 16GB RAM

I'm experiencing very high CPU temperatures, reaching 100°C, even during light usage. Temperatures often stay between 91–96–100°C, and never drop, even when setting the fans to maximum speed, whether under light or heavy loads.

On the other hand, I noticed that one of my friends has the exact same laptop model, but his CPU temperature never exceeds 78°C, even with the fans on automatic mode.

I found out that the CPU uses liquid metal, but I don’t know the exact type.

  • Does anyone here know the exact brand/model used by Acer?
  • Is it possible to replace it with PTM7950?
  • Has anyone tried PTM7950? If yes, what were the temperatures after applying it?

For context:

The laptop is brand new, and it's been reaching high temperatures since the first time I turned it on.

I’ve attached an image showing the CPU temperature, usage percentage, and fan speeds.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

A Predator Helios Neo 16 CPU reaching 91-100°C, especially during gaming or intensive tasks, is within the normal operating range for this type of laptop, but it's also on the higher side and could indicate potential issues if sustained. While these laptops are designed to handle such temperatures, consistently high readings may warrant investigation.

Here's a breakdown of why this happens and what you can do:-
    Why it gets hot:-
    High-Performance CPUs:
Gaming laptops often have powerful CPUs that generate a lot of heat when working hard.
    Thermal Design:-
The Helios Neo 16, like many gaming laptops, uses advanced cooling solutions like custom fans, liquid metal thermal grease, and vector heat pipes to manage heat, but there's a tradeoff between performance and temperature.
    Intensive Tasks:-
Gaming and other demanding tasks put a heavy load on the CPU, causing it to heat up.
    Potential Issues:-
If temperatures consistently stay at the higher end of the range or spike frequently, it could be due to:
Poor ventilation: Dust buildup on fans and vents can restrict airflow, trapping heat.
Fan problems: Failing or malfunctioning fans may not cool effectively.
Thermal paste issues: Poorly applied or dried-out thermal paste can hinder heat transfer.

If its brand new return it quickly and demand a refund or replacement

You don't understand anything, the computer is new, where will the dust come from? My question is clear, if you don't know the answer, it's better to keep quiet.

I want to know the thermal paste used, or if anyone has tried the PTM7950 only.

I know it can withstand up to 100 degrees, but the normal temperature does not exceed 85 degrees.

The ventilation is very good and the air temperature is 23 degrees.

OP why keep posting…you won't find a solution here. If you laptop is new and running at 85c when not under load then return it ASAP for replacement or refund

I am in Yemen and the laptop is imported from the American market. We do not have an authorized agent in Yemen. A shop owner imports them and sells them.

They didn't want to return the laptop, they told me they would repair it.

My laptop is the last one they have. They have other companies like Asus, but I like the Predator.

I strongly suggest with especially your Predator Neo PHN16-72 model laptop and due to its Intel problematic Intel 14th Gen cpu voltage vulnerabilities which makes it overheat and even be damaged, is to do the following:

    • Make sure that you have the last bios 1.17 installed as that has the cpu microcode update version 0x129, that Intel says it a fix to the cpu vulnerabilities.
    • If you do allot of editing, multitasking and especially hard core gaming, that you change the liquid paste cpu at a max interval of 4 months and
    • Also apply liquid metal to the gpu,
    • Run at least 64GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type ram with your PHN16-72 model laptop (btw you can run 96GB also, see this post here, where a community member has upgraded to 96GB ram)

As doing all this will keep the thermal temps down and make your laptop perform at its peak and best that you want out of a high end laptop like the PHN16-72. Good luck and hope this helps you put further.
