Acer 15.6" Predator Helios 3D 15 Gaming Laptop SpatialLabs Edition ram, possible to upgrade RAM

I was considering purchasing a Acer 15.6" Predator Helios 3D 15 Gaming Laptop SpatialLabs Edition since it was on sale and $800 off. I really like the specs and everything on the laptop and I like the 3d modeling capabilities. However even with the $800 discount the laptop is still $3,000 which is a lot and it has 32 gb of ram which is a lot more than I have now.

However for the same price I can get a ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED (H7604) with upgraded 64 gb of ram and two 2 tb ssd gen 4 and have it be slightly cheaper.

But I like the 3d technology of the Helios more. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade the ram of the helios to 64 gb after purchasing it? I game sometimes but the main reason I want the laptop is for video editing and 3d modeling and I like how the helios has a better gpu.

The Predator Helios 3D 15 Gaming Laptop SpatialLabs has a designated main model number listed as PH3D15-71-xxxx and comes in different versions, but its ram max capacity is the same in all versions of this laptop, oem its fitted with a setup of 32GB of DDR5-5600Mhz type ram but this laptop (see caption below) can be upgraded to 64GB max total of RRD5-5600Mhz type ram also. The modules below are only a guide from Acer of what they fit into this laptop with their oem 32GB ram by Acer, to find out the exact 64GB spec ram consult Acer or Crucial ram for further information as Acer does not list the specs for this laptop 64GB ram upgrade specs as shown below. Hi, just in case this information is still useful to anyone.

I recently purchased the Acer Predator Helios 3D PH3D15-71 with a default RAM configuration of 32GB 5600Mhz DDR5. Here are the specs:

I do a lot of gamedev-related work with Unreal engine so it frequently maxes out the RAM. I wanted to upgrade to higher RAM, and found the following on Amazon - it is the 96GB Crucial DDR5 5600Mhz RAM. I searched a lot online to find whether it will work on my laptop, since the official documentation only says max 32GB. I decided to buy it and try anyways.

I installed, and surprisingly, it worked! The first boot took a bit longer than usual, about 5 minutes. But once it gets past the Predator logo, everything worked normally, I see 96GB RAM in Windows task manager. However, one thing I realized is that the speed of the RAM fell down to 4800MT/s. (The original installed 32GB RAM performs at 5600MT/s). One thing to note is that I did not update my BIOS, it is still at v1.04. I prefer not to update anything if it's not necessary. However, I would love to hear anyone's advice if upgrading the BIOS would allow RAM to run at higher speed?

I further did a MemTest86 check overnight to see if the RAM works, and it passed the test without problems.

I hope this helps whoever that's having this laptop and might have doubts about upgrading to more RAM!

Hy regularbicycle, that is very useful information for all Acer community members, as there have been questions on this subject of upgrading these new Intel 13th and 14th Gen cpu laptops to 96GB and even 128GB which Intel specifies on their site for the i5-13500HX or i7-13700HX to max speed of DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 and your i9-130900HX with up to DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type ram.

I strongly suggest that you upgrade your Predator PH3D15-71 to its last bios version 1.07 as its a must do for these laptops especially as this bios will also upgrade the i9-13900HX cpu' microcode which also fixes the Intel 13th cpu "Vmin Shift Instability issue" which is a clock tree circuit within the IA core which is particularly vulnerable to reliability aging under elevated voltage and temperature and the bios version 1.07 will also improve ram compatibility, so do that first and let us know if your DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 96GB capacity ram will work at 5600MT/s speeds.

If not then the reason why the DDR5-5600MT/s (megatransfer per second) CL46 type ram is downclocked at 96GB total to 4800MT/s speed, is because the type of memory you can use not only depends on processor specification but also on the Acer motherboard and its chipset capabilities and the Acer Predator PH3D15-71 mobo must be limited to a max capacity of 64GB at 5600MT/s speed at its max bandwidth of 89.6 GB/s for the i9-13900HX cpu and anything beyond 64GB capacity, the mobo limits the max memory bandwidth to the 13th Gen i5 and i7 bandwidth of 76.8 GB/s cpu's speeds.

Btw, I've updated my Predator Helios Neo PHN16-71 laptop with the 13th gen i5-13500HX cpu to 64GB @ 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 and my laptop works at 4800MT/s ram speed perfectly, I was thinking of upgrading the ram to either 96GB and even 128GB @ 2x 64GB DDr5-4800MT/s 40 as these 262 pin DDR5 SODIMM modules are available, so its really nice to know that your i9-13900HX cpu Predator PH3D15-71 works at this high end capacity for these cpu's and that you have shared your experience on the community. Thank you as it will be very helpful information for users of these laptops that need ram beyond 64GB capacities.

I read somewhere on Reddit that a feature called 'XMP' (Extreme Memory Profile) need to be enabled for such RAM to run at 5600Mhz.. but I can't find that feature in Acer's BIOS. Even the 'Advanced' menu items in the BIOS seems fairly limited. I wonder if anyone else has better luck to find this setting?

Try to do this as some Acer laptops may have hidden menus unlocked with these key combinations inside the BIOS:

Press Ctrl + F10 or Ctrl + F11 when entering BIOS.
Try pressing A while holding Ctrl in BIOS.
If your BIOS has an "Advanced" tab but is locked, pressing Fn + Tab three times, then restarting might help.
