I just realized with my recent upper case, screen and lower case repair that I did myself, my Spin is from 2019 or 2020. I can see why the cases were so damaged worn from those years of use but not abuse.

With the new cases my Spin 5 looks brand new and I honestly dont notice lag or delays from the older Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz 1.50 GHz

I dont do heavy computing such as gaming or intense graphics apps. My computer is basically used for everyday use emails, microsoft office, browering and music.

It seems with a recent repair to my Windows Home 11, I dont have the finger print scanner use anymore and when I downloaded Acer software to see if I could put it back, it had a date of 2020? And it didnt work? I still have the pin attached to my Spin 5, which is fine. But I did like having the fingerprint sign in as well

Wonder if my Spin is no longer being updated for newer software? All the acer software is from 2020 and seems stock with what it came with? I do Intel and aftermarket apps that show if a driver needs an update, but I feel microsoft is limiting my updates or not showing me ones. Yes I have gone through the steps to see if any add opt updates are there and its alwats 0?

My motherboard is running strong and no issues with Acer parts motherboard, charging port etc. I have replaced the battery 1 time but its at 90% now and still going strong, with that being said, I feel I like I have gone past the longevity of my Spin or?

With the fingerprint driver your Spin SP513-54N model laptop has the same driver as it had in 2020 as it hasn't been updated. To activate and calibrate the fingerings drive in Win-10 or 11 read this guide "How To Reinstall Fingerprint Scanner Driver In Windows 10/11" and do it all over again. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

The bio metric has been removed from the device manager and not by me. I am now facing an issue where some of the keys on the keyboard are not working on the laptop itself. I am on a contected Keyboard by thunderbolt from a dock.

Ever since I used the Microsoft fix corrupted files program, the finger print didnt work and now the keyboard is having issues. I am hoping to not do a reset but I may just do it.

So futher diagnosed the laptop has issues with v b m and the space keys not workworking at times. And it seems to be an issue with the bottom keys on the keyboard itself only that experience the issues and secondary keys as well, where the keys dont work.

With the space key I have click it 2 to 3 times so it spaces or just will space and do that werid space issue, my question mark key doesnt work as well, which is the secondary key

I ended up doing a re-install of Microsoft 11 instead of a reset, which saved all my apps, sofatware and settings. I am still having issues but for now its only realted to the question mark key , the seconardy key does not work in shift.

Since the bio-metrics is not being shown in the device, I think the issue is my upper case with keyboard attached I received, I think its prob defective.

Since I use a docking station for a second keyboard and mouse, I will just deal with this.

The fingerprint reader uses an internal USB 2.0 connection to the motherboard. When the device disappears from Device Manager that usually means that connection is no longer working, so the system thinks it's been disconnected. If you turn on the Show Hidden Devices option it should reappear, but ghosted. Because you are also seeing issues with the bottom row of keys I'm guessing the issue is hardware, with something going on at the bottom of the case. Maybe the touchpad isn't seated correctly, or the cable for the fingerprint sensor isn't well seated?

Before I screwed the bottom I made sure all connections were set and set good. So that is not the issue.

The bottom row issue has now gone away, but the question marky key and space will sometimes go out.

I am now having an issue with my Windows 11 re-install, this Spin 5 is an insurance replacement from Acer back in 2022. It came with Win 8 RTM pro, which I updated to Win 10 pro and than Win 11 pro. I am finding out that is not case as I have Win 11 home. But when trying to see if biomaterics is enabled in group policy I am seeing that I am not allowed to go into because its Win 10?

I have done everything that I found online to re-engae the fingerprint Device Manger (Unhide), Services (Turning on service), System 32 (Installing fingerprint driver) all have failed and now since i cant go into system policy i am assuming the keyboard itself is defective….I have downloaded and installed the Acer ELan Finger print and touchpad software, with no avail.

I can't imagine why they would have given you a system with W8 on it at all, since the original shipping version for the SP513-54N was W10. I believe all the Spin model, other than TravelMate Spin, shipped with Home. Acer doesn't have a W11 driver package on their site, so they have likely run into issues with one or more drivers and W11. I wonder if the Elantech driver for the fingerprint reader is the culprit? Right now the system thinks the reader has be removed from the system and you aren't showing any unidentified devices, so that means it's not even talking on that internal USB port. If it were just a missing or corrupt driver than you would at least see an unidentified device, likely with a USB descriptor failure.
