Good day,

I need a new charger for my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 R588.

I still do own the original charger with the 180W, 19,5V and 9,23A output however my issue is mainly the following.

I've noticed that during high performance-requiring games such as Star Wars Outlaws, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and other games similar to those 2, with how specification heavy they are, that my battery (while my laptop is plugged in) tends to start draining and FPS randomly drops for up to a minute before reverting back up to what it normally is at.

Now I've read that apparently my charger isn't putting out enough power for my laptop to handle hence why it will take power from my battery which in turn can cause performance drops.

Now I've looked into it for the last 2 hours and I've found out that it is possible for me to use a different charger that can put more power out but I need to make sure the voltage remains the same with a maximum difference of 1 voltage, meaning that in this case the 19,5V adapter can be changed for a 20/20,5V adapter if I'm not mistaken.

I then searched specifically for an adapter that could work out but it is one that is made by ASUS, specifically the ASUS AD280-00E(ADP-280EB B) adapter. This link is in Dutch but it shows the specifications that it has.
https://www.megekko.nl/product/2061/1099466/Voedingsadapters/ASUS-AD280-00E-ADP-280EB-B-EU-netvoeding-inverter-Binnen-280-W-Zwart

It would be a great help to me if I can get an answer to hopefully be able to get a more powerful adapter as the standard 180W & 9,23A seems to not be a good fit for the games I am playing.

Do not use another manufacturers adapter for your AN515-45 as it could damage your laptop, plus that ASUS adapter doesn't say what size barrel plug it has, as you need the exact 1.7x5.5x11 type barrel plug for your AN515-45 laptop DC_IN port.

Also, the loss of power in high end gaming is NOT due to the adapter but its due to the power regulator inside your laptop that might be overheating and shorting out from the laptop using the adapters max power and amps and then the laptop is using the battery.

Your AN515-45 laptops 180W adapter has the following specs below, if you want to use a higher capacity adapter, use the Acer AN515-46 model 230W, 280W or even the 330W with a 1.7x5.5x11 type barrel plug that is exactly the same and will fit your DC_IN port. good luck and hope this helps you out.

Your existing AN515-45 180W Adapter Specs:

    • 90Vac / full load, Maximum 2.5A / 180Vac / full load, Maximum 1.25A

Nitro AN515-46 adapters (this is the next Nitro model up adapters whih have the same barrel plug as your AN515-45 laptop)

    • 230W - 19.5V 90Vac/60Hz, 3.5A (max.) – Acer part #: KP.23001.002 or KP.23003.001 or KP.2300H.004
    • 280W – 19.5V 90Vac/60Hz, 4A (max.) – Acer part #: KP.28001.001 or KP.2800H.001

330W adapters (if you want to go to the max)

    • LITE-ON PA-1331-99AL 330W High power 5.5PHY (1.7x5.5x11) Brick 19.5V/16.9A Black - Acer part #: KP.33003.004
    • Chicony Power A330A012P 330W High power 5.5PHY (1.7x5.5x11) Brick 19.5V/16.92A Black - Acer part #: KP.3300H.001

Yes, that Asome K9 multi fan cooler looks great as it will pump and extract allot of clean air in and hot air out of your laptop, the links are also fine for the 330W adapter that Acer uses, get the A330A012P Chicony AC-adapter 330.0 Watt.

To really assist the temps and make the cooling of the cpu/gpu and vram chips more efficient, change the paste (as this laptop is due for a paste and vram thermal pad change) of the cpu and gpu and vram modules.

Use the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for the CPU, for the GPU use Kryonaut extreme and for the VRAM chips use the TG Putty as this product is of a very high quality and all gamers use Thermal Grizzly for efficient thermal pastes on their computers. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

The Razer company is a much more renowned maker of gaming laptops and their design of the Razer HyperBoost cooler would be specifically made for gaming laptops, but they are not cheap at USD $200.00, while with the Asome K9, I've got no idea who they are and what their experience is with laptops and gaming. I would buy the Razer cooler as they are a much more renowned gaming laptop manufacturer and they know their stuff, its up to you. Good luck.

Thank you so much! I'll make sure to look into those you have listed!

I do wish to ask as a follow up and see what can be done of course.

I have bought a laptop cooler from Asome, specifically the Asome K9.

Is there anything you can recommend to use for increasing the cooling capacity to avoid or help against overheating of my laptop?

I've already replaced the cooling paste and regularly clean out the fans.

Oh and as a follow up, I've looked them up but was curious.

    Are these the correct ones?

Sorry for the third message, just wanted to make sure that the links I posted were indeed the correct products and hopefully finding some more information on how to cool my laptop in a better manner than what I already am doing.

Do you think this one would be better than the Asome K9?

You are truly a god send, I'll be working on ordering the Thermal Grizzly supplies and the Chicony A330A012P charger ASAP. The Razer cooler I will get as time goes on but I do truly appreciate all your help! ❤️

    I have one last question!
I just got my cooling pastes and the putty, the charger is on its way.
But with the Conductonaut came instructions that specifically stated that you should NOT use it unless it is with a copper heatsink.

Is the Conductonaut safe to use for the laptop?

Your Acer Nitro AN515-45 heatsinks is a copper heatsink not aluminum, plus it also has a coating to protect the copper for extra insulation on the thermal module, so applying the liquid metal past will not be conductive as that is what Thermal Grizzly is saying if the thermal module is made of aluminum. Acer uses liquid metal on all their new Nitro laptops and all their top end gaming laptops and desktops, so there should be no problems using it. I used liquid metal on my Nitro AN515-56 and its been working for over 1.5 years perfectly without any issues. Good luck.

Just redid it all, the putty and both cooling pastes.

Now my laptop turns on, fans stop and simply stays on a black screen.

    Help.

Check the fan plugs if you inserted them properly and didn't bent their pins inside the mainboard plug, as that is one thing that cause the symptom that you have, as its impossible that the laptop will not boot after a repaste if the laptop booted before. Or take the battery out and the disconnect the bios battery and short the bios batteries +&- pins to reset its CMOS and take the ram out. Leave the laptop like that for 15min and then reconnect everything to reset, afterwards reconnect everything except and if you have 2x ram modules only connect one and alternate the rm, as the ram could be faulty. Good luck.
