Why are the wifi and screen brightness buttons on my Aspire A315-55G laptop's keyboard not working

Can't seem to make the wifi toggle on and off using keyboard keys (fn + f2). Adjusting the screen brightness to lower it using the key in (f3) also doesn't work, but adjusting it higher works in (f4).

These two keys (f2) and (f3) are the only keys not working in my laptop.

Would appreciate help.

My laptop's model is the Aspire A315-55G with Windows 10 x64.

Hi @bluwish have you checked that the Fn key is working correctly? Make sure that it is not activated by default and that it is not necessary to press it.
If this is not the case, make sure that you have the keyboard language settings correctly, that is, the keyboard language must match the language of the operating system and, above all, the keyboard letter layout.

Hello Alejandro_AC, yep, I checked and my other fn keys work except for (f2) and (f3).

I checked my settings, and my OS and keyboard language match (English - United States). I only have this language set as my keyboard layout as well.

The problem with my two keys still persist. What else can I check?

It occurs to me that it could be a physical problem with those keys.
Can you try with a USB keyboard?
Try also opening the virtual keyboard, run:
    OSK

I don't have a usable USB keyboard at the moment so I can't check that route, but I managed to open the OSK. What do I do with the OSK?

Type with the mouse on the virtual screen keyboard and check if the keys work, if they work then it is a physical problem with the keyboard.

I typed for a bit using the OSK earlier and the keys work, I suppose my issue is indeed physical. Thanks for guiding me so far, I'll see when I can get my laptop looked at during the weekend. Cheers

That's right, in this case it's a physical problem. Please report any progress when you can take it to the service center.

If the Wi-Fi and screen brightness keys on your Acer Aspire A315-55G laptop's keyboard aren't working, try updating your keyboard driver, installing Acer's Hotkey Support software, or checking for BIOS updates.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of potential solutions:-

    1. Update Keyboard Driver:
Check Device Manager: Press the Windows key + X, then click on "Device Manager".
Expand Keyboards: Locate and expand the "Keyboards" section.
Update Driver: Right-click on "Standard PS/2 Keyboard" and select "Update driver software".
Choose Update Method: You can either let Windows search for drivers automatically or browse for drivers on your computer.
    2. Install Acer Hotkey Support:
Download Software: Visit the Acer support website and download the "Hotkey Support" software for your specific model (Aspire A315-55G).
Install Software: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
    3. Check for BIOS Updates:
Visit Acer Support: Go to the Acer support website and find the BIOS update for your Aspire A315-55G.
Update BIOS: Follow the instructions provided by Acer to update the BIOS.
    4. Other Troubleshooting Steps:
Run Keyboard Troubleshooter: Type "Troubleshoot" in the Windows search bar, click "Troubleshoot," scroll down to "Keyboard," and run the troubleshooter.
Check for Conflicts: Ensure that no other software is interfering with the function keys.
Reinstall Windows (Last Resort): If all else fails, you may need to reinstall Windows.

Hi Axxo, I checked and there doesn't seem to be a Hotkey Support over at the Acer support website for my specific laptop model, My Keyboard Driver is also up to date and I'd rather not risk doing a BIOS update if it would affect my drawing softwares. I also had no issues when I ran my Keyboard troubleshooter and I have no softwares that are interfering my my fn keys.

The issue with those particular fn keys began when I first started getting upgrade-to-Windows-11 ads on my lockscreen. I still haven't gotten my laptop checked at the service center, but I'll update this thread when I do. Thanks for the guide.
