Video not switching to laptop screen on PH18-72 when HDMI disconnected

Hey all,

I have a 2024 Acer Helios Predator 18 (PH18-72) w/4090m which I connect to my TV via HDMI when playing games. In that mode, I switch video output to second screen only as there's no need for the laptop LCD to be on. The problem arises if I happen to incorrectly set an unsupported (by TV) screen resolution/refresh rate in the game or if I disconnect the HDMI cable. In those situations the screen on the TV goes blank and the video does not switch to the laptop like it does on every laptop that I've ever used. So I'm left with a system that I have to hard-reboot by holding down the power button for 15 seconds. I did a fresh install of Win11 when I got the laptop so I'm wondering if I missed a driver or setting somewhere.

Things I've tried:

  1. Fresh Nvidia graphics drivers re-install
  2. OS is up-to-date
  3. Switching to Nvidia only in BIOS (from automatic)
  4. Disconnecting/reconnecting power when this happens
    1. It seems the laptop stays in the same power mode because the keyboard color does not change to green (my eco/balanced-mode setting)
  5. Disconnecting/reconnecting the HDMI cable from the laptop
  6. Trying Fn-F8 to switch back to single screen mode

Anyone know what might be going on or how to fix this?
