I found a few issues with my Acer Connect X6E, running on firmware X6E_GBL_1.02.000035 with web version X6E_WEB_1.01.000024 and module version X6E_V1.1.4_GBL_240207

  1. Security: Guest Wi-Fi doesn't block access to devices on your local network. I am able to access my NAS on my local network from the guest Wi-Fi
  2. Device functioning: It seems that about every two/three months there is an issue with the device, I am guessing that is due to a bloating of the settings (backup is 67kB after a reset en reconfiguration but before it was 1468kB) or else there might be an issue (as I concluded from the bloating) with the 5G Internet Statistics and an inability to clear previous data, as stated "The system will only keep statistics for the current month and the previous two months.", this seems to coincide with the device issues, where it seems to starts rebooting frequently and also once with an auto update of the device firmware, where it stopped functioning and I needed a reset (I could not restore the large backup file, that's how I noticed the big size difference). It seems that the SMS Inbox data and usage statistics are stored in the settings backup. Now I need a reset and restore the clean settings backup and then also need an extra reboot or restart by disconnecting and after some 10 seconds reconnecting the power
  3. Minor issue: Logged errors web front-end, in the developer console is see multiple errors with requests like "/cgi-bin/cgibin?CgiName=web_get_usage_info&hiddenLoading=true" where there is a "XML Parsing Error: not well-formed", the response is a JSON response so yeah that will not parse as XML.

Please Acer can you fix these issues?

From the specs it is a really nice device although the config options are a bit limited to my taste. But these issues, especially 1 and 2, make the device seem bad, and issue 3, really, is any testing being done?

Do others also experience these issues?

You aren't corresponding with any Acer employees here, just us other Acer users. You should pass the contents of your post to Acer support. Is the guest network on the same subnet as your main network? A typical way they handle guests is to put them on a separate subnet. Some of the newer router designs are handling the guests on the same subnet, but disallowing traffic from those addresses, with that scheme you can still sometimes get to local resources by using an IP address instead of the URL.

"You aren't corresponding with any Acer employees here", yeah, still I hope they will look through these discussions/questions. But thanks for your reply, now I will also look at other ways of contacting Acer.

My previous router didn't have a separate subnet either, but I still could not access my local network. It would be nice if I could create a VNET, but I don't expect that from this device, I do expect that the guest network isn't able to access my local network devices.

For the second issue I might create a script that restores the minimal backup each month and see if that prevents issues in the future. I'm still interested if other also experience these issues, although the second issue might occur only if 5G is the primary WAN, or if load balancing is used.
