See my previous post cos i dont understand how this forum works in termes of message.

I have good news and I am actually typing from the concerned laptop Aspire 5 (A517-51G).

Since nothing was happening when i press the power key , i tried to press at the same time the F10 key, cos i noticed that both LED on the side were lighted. Then the acer screen appears, staying pressed on F10, i did not let go and after a considerable amount of time still pressing F10 key, windows screen login appeared and my secret code to enter widows appeared, keeping the F10 key held , i enter my PIN code , and there it goes my desktop appeared as if nothing never happened.

As soon as i left the F10 key , PC went DOWN.

What the hell is this F10 key (no symbol on it or indications)

Right now, i have put a little weight on that key so i can type this long message.

So what's are you all saying ?

By the way, I called the ACER French Support hotline and ask them for help. We did the pin battery check, and power up with nothing happening. Their conclusion: it's the motherboard, sorry this part is not available and not sold anymore, better buy a new Laptop. Man, this one is only 5 years old.

So guys what do you think, can I remove the little weight on my F10 key???

Hi, the F10 key turns on/off my touchpad on the Acer Swift X. On older Acer laptops F10: Play/Pause Media, Plays or pauses media in supported applications like music players or video streaming platforms: Acer Laptop Function Keys List - A Complete Guide - OneSDR - A Technology Blog

Good thing that key was lit or you probably never would've figured that out.

If it were me I'd just use a toothpick as a wedge, meaning one miniature wood wedge on each side of the button, then trim off the excess.

Or maybe glue the button down. Not super glue, that'll get down into places you don't want it. Epoxy just might too. Hot glue would likely sit there where you want it, with just a dot of it on each side, and be removable should you ever need it. It's not like you have anything to lose right?

That button can be tricky! A toothpick wedge sounds like a solid idea, easy to control. As for gluing, hot glue is probably the best bet. Just a little dot on each side, and if it doesn’t work, you can always remove it. Not much to lose, really!

OK guys, these are nice fix up but i was looking for a permanent may be software fix.

I happen to notice the "ACER Power Utility" windows sometimes appears quickly right before it turns off when i remove the weight.

Aren't there anything that can be done this way?
