Check for a small pinhole in the back of your laptop (with a battery sign) and stick a pin in that hole till you feel it click (micro switch), keep pressing the pin for a few seconds. This will reset the battery.

Power drain + CMOS reset: Open the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard. Locate the CMOS module (with 2 twisted wires Red and Black under the battery, see red circle picture) and remove the coin battery. Shorten the +/- terminals inside the CMOS capsule for 2 seconds with a bended paperclip and put the coin battery back with the + sign facing up, close the CMOS capsule. Next, press the Power Button on the keyboard for 10-15 seconds. after that reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard. Close the laptop, plug-in the adapter and try to boot.

    OK !

Step 1 : just tried the paper clip pinhole for a few seconds and try to power up : NOTHING

Step 2 : i have to shorten the coin battery or the connector on the motherboard ?

    Many Thanks

    Hello again,

I did exactly what you said, twice, and it still does not happen anything on my laptop.

1/reset battery with the little pin

    2/ Reset CMOS & Drain

Battery is new, when charger is plugged, led on the side indicate "blue", so i guess fully loaded.

There's nothing hapenning on the screen, not even the fan turning on the back when i push power button. Since there is no other led indicator, i just don't understand what's not happening.

    Please help !!!

If the fan does not run after pressing the power button, the issue is likely on the motherboard. You will need to bring it to a technician who specializes in motherboard repair.

So I guess it is dead, and that there no solution beside changing the motherboard.

Thanks anyway for the bad news ; (

Sounds like you have a defective power adapter. A new one on Acer's website or Amazon would cost less than 39 bucks. The power adapter is the big part of the power cord. It is worth a try. If still under warranty, you could get an RMA and send the device with power cord to them, if it's a power supply problem or a burned-out power invertor on the motherboard, they will replace or repair what is defective. However, you say it is a 2017 model so I would think it is not covered unless you bought an extended warranty. If not under warranty, then I would get a new power cord/power supply from the cheapest source. I bought my ACER 5 Aspire A515-43 in 2020 and the warranty expired. But I have added a Sandisk 1TB SSD to the extra SATA port inside that shows up as the "D" drive, it boots off the 500GB SSD M.2 card that it came with. I took out the two 4GB memory sims (2 memory slots) and put 16GB in each slot using DDR 4 which comes to 32GB RAM memory. The docs say 16GB is the max, but the BIOS detects the 32GB and it uses all of the memory (not very often).

I dont think it is the power adapter at all.

I am sure it is functioning properly.

To me it is a bios software issue.

To reset the BIOS password, you will need to bring it to the local Acer center.

What happens if you just press the power button only?

I have good news and I am actually typing from the concerned laptop Aspire 5 (A517-51G).

Since nothing was happening when i press the power key , i tried to press at the same time the F10 key, cos i noticed that both LED on the side were lighted. Then the acer screen appears, staying pressed on F10, i did not let go and after a considerable amount of time still pressing F10 key, windows screen login appeared and my secret code to enter widows appeared, keeping the F10 key held , i enter my PIN code , and there it goes my desktop appeared as if nothing never happened.

As soon as i left the F10 key , PC went DOWN.

What the hell is this F10 key (no symbol on it or indications)

Right now, i have put a little weight on that key so i can type this long message.

So what's are you all saying ?

By the way, I called the ACER French Support hotline and ask them for help. We did the pin battery check, and power up with nothing happening. Their conclusion: it's the motherboard, sorry this part is not available and not sold anymore, better buy a new Laptop. Man, this one is only 5 years old.

So guys what do you think, can I remove the little weight on my F10 key???

    Ahaha.

Then you can go to a PC repair shop to see if they can reset your BIOS password.
