I have an Aspire 5 A515-56 that has been having intermittent charging issues that have been getting worse over the past month. A quick search led to a post on this site that recommended updating bios to > 1.26. My bios version is 1.33. I have tried a couple different charging cords without success. What else can I do or is my year-old laptop in need of replacement?

Hi, this model is from October 2020, and the latest BIOS is version is 1.36 from 2024/04/18. if you bought the laptop in 2023 it will have a 4-year old battery by now and may need to be replaced, run a battery report: Paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert. Also stop and disable Acer Care Center if you have that installed, in Windows Services click on accSvc and accAgentSvc and in Properties change Startup type to Disabled and click on Apply.

Thank you for your quick response. I tried the command prompt; a black box appears and closes itself almost immediately, so I was not able to print it. I looked in the Window Services and did not see accSvc or accAgentSvc. If it makes a difference for troubleshooting, the battery life is several hours. But when I try to charge, it requires a lot of fiddling and effort to get the computer to acknowledge that it is in fact connected to the charger. Even if I do not move or touch the computer, the charging lightning bolt may repeatedly appear and disappear.

Hi, you have to open the command prompt as Administrator, right click on the command prompt and select Run as Administrator, then paste that line.

Thank you. I attached the battery report. I looked through Window Services and could not find accSvc or accAgentSvc. I attached all the services I found listed. Is it hidden under one of them?

Hi, you don't have Acer Care Center installed, but I see 4 preinstalled programs that you may consider uninstalling, McAfee, Opera, Adobe trial and Office 365 trial. Your BIOS needs updating to version 1.36 from 2024/04/18. As I stated this model is from 2020, but the battery is only 1 year old, did you perhaps buy a refurbished laptop? You have to register the (good) battery in BIOS and Microsoft ACPI as the battery meter reads the wrong capacity and shows no wear after 1 year. These are the 3 OEM battery types recommended by Acer for your laptop, so you have the correct battery installed.

After you updated your BIOS, open Device Manager and uninstall these 2 battery drivers:

Reboot and try to charge the battery to 100%, if that still is not possible try a different 45-W power adapter with the correct 3.0mm x 1.1mm pin size, your adapter may have the wrong plug type or is bad. @gpugs

Do you have to wiggle the charger around a lot to start charging?

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Thank you. That appears to have fixed it, but to be safe I will order the recommended charger anyways. However, now the mouse pad does not work when charging (zero movement, clicking does nothing) but the usb mouse I have does?

Follow up questions, I now see Acer Care Center and number of other Acer programs under the Services panel that I do not believe were there earlier. Do I have to do anything with them?

Regarding the programs you mentioned, I see Adobe Acrobat Update Service and mcafee integration service but not the other two. What is the best way to remove them, or can I search for each under the start icon and uninstall from there?

How frequently should I be updating/checking for BIOS updates? I just assumed that was part of the Windows Updates.

Puraw, thank you for your knowledge and assistance.
