It's not a good idea to use Samsung PM981a (MZVLB1T0HBLR-00007) without heatsink and poor ventilation. These SSD's tend to get very hot!

If we look at the PCB layout of the motherboard of the Nitro AN517-41, you can see that the EC chip is very near to the M.2 #2 slot. And this has the potential to trigger the BD-PROCHOT, and consequently cause bottleneck in the system due to the excessive heat generated.

Perhaps the solution is to use just a single M.2 SSD, or opt for another model recommended by the manufacturer.

You can also use the Samsung Magician software to check if there are any firmware updates available. However, I think it's unlikely to improve the temperatures you're getting.

Have you considered using a thermal pad and a light heatsink for your ssd ? The below video link show how to prevent your samsung mvne ssd from overheating with thermal pad

it's all about the thickness of the heatsink, you have to choose a slight thinkness heatsink for ssd in laptop. The 0.8- 4.0 mm thickness should fit inside a Nitro 5
