Nitro5AN515-55-NVIDIA GeForce 1650 reports as disabled on startup, graphics card gets overheated up.

Good morning.

I have an Acer Nitro 5 laptop with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (model AN515-55). A couple months ago, I started noticing the laptop was running really hot. I blew out the vents and still had the same issue. Then I cleaned the vents internally as well. In the meantime, there were a few times while playing Diablo 4 that a blue screen popped up that read Windows has encountered a problem. I restarted and the video card was disabled. I disabled/re-enabled the video card via Windows Task Manager and re-started. Everything was fine for a bit, then it happened again. I repeated this process 2 or 3 more times. The last time I was good for about 2 or 3 weeks, then the same thing occurred. I've used DDU to uninstall the drivers and re-install them. But when I restart, the NVIDIA is disabled again.

I'm guessing this means my graphics card probably overheated one too many times and is no longer functioning, but I would really appreciate it if anyone else could offer some other insights into something I may have missed.

The only thing that you can do is what you have done and make sure that you are running the last bios version 2.06 and you have also updated the firmware version v101a that "Update Nvidia discrete VGA VBIOS and improve performance" that are on the Acer support page for the AN515-55. If you have done all this and the GTX1650 still doesn't get detected then there is a possibility that your gpu is fried and the only choices that you have is to use the cpu graphics or change the mainboard for a better RTX gpu that the AN515-55 higher spec laptops came with. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Note: in the Acer Nitro AN515-55 service guide there is a list of VGA CHIP and part numbers (see caption below) phone either Acer Tech Support in your country or a knowledgeable technician and find out if those gpu chips are available from Acer and/or the gpu chip can be changed to one of the VGA CHIPS that Acer has part numbers for below, this is another alternative that could be cheaper than a new mobo:

You will need to clean out the fan and replace the thermal paste to prevent the GPU from overheating.

Quick update. I was able to do a system restore to a point when my GPU was working and updated the BIOS. However, when trying to install v101a for the GPU, the program reported that my GPU isn't compatible. Does this mean my GPU is more prone to failure?
