Issues with Acer Predator Connect W6 Configuration as Secondary Router

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an Acer Predator Connect W6 router, but I'm facing some issues with its configuration. I already have an ISP router, and I don't want the W6 to be my primary router. Here's what I have done so far:

  1. After saving these settings, everything works fine.
    • Static IP address: 192.168.1.251
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default gateway: 192.168.1.254 (ISP router IP)
    • Primary DNS server: 192.168.1.254 (ISP router IP)
  2. The problem:
After disabling DHCP, the router is still accessible at 192.168.76.1, and the clients continue to receive IPs in the 192.168.76.xxx range.
    • Clients connected to the W6 have IP addresses in the 192.168.71.xx range, which is not what I want, because there is no connection between 192.168.1.xxx and 192.168.71.xxx network
    • To fix this, I went to the LAN settings and disabled the DHCP server, the gateway address stays at 192.168.76.1 with the same subnet mask and range as it .
  3. Bridge Mode:
I also tried setting the WAN to Switch/Bridge mode (as per the manual), but I couldn’t find where to assign a static IP in this mode. When I do this, I can't connect to the W6 router anymore.

Any advice on how to properly configure this router as a secondary device with static IP and correct IP ranges for clients?

Thanks in advance!

It's unclear to me what network topology you are trying for. First you show data about a 192.168.1.xxx network, then talk about 192.168.76.xxx and 192.168.71.xxx. Is the ISP router providing DHCP on the 192.168.1.xxx network, or on a 192.168.76.xxx? Try and draw a diagram of what you are trying for…

I have this router and similarly set it up in Bridge Mode.

Do you know if it has the latest firmware? If not you'll want to hard reset it, set it up in router mode, then update the firmware. You can't update the firmware in Bridge Mode, which in my opinion makes this router not ideal…

I personally set up one SSID for almost all my clients/devices. I let the routers and devices decide which band to connect to. ACER calls this "band steering". If you want this then you need to set it up prior to switching to Bridge Mode.

To change the IP address (in Bridge Mode) go to → LAN → LAN setting and change the "Gateway address:" field to 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is what you prefer. I believe AT&T reserves up to 49 or 50 for static IP assignment so I personally use xxx = 20.

btw- You can enter the ISP DNS's 68.94.156.8, 68.94.157.8. (Sorry if I assumed you have AT&T fiber I notice the unique way they set up their residential gateway address to 192.168.1.254).
