Looking for Predator Helios 16(Predator PH16-71) BIOS update

Hello, when will the voltage reduction function of this notebook processor be updated? Other notebook manufacturers, such as ASUS, MSI, Lenovo, etc., all support CPU voltage reduction. Why doesn’t this model support step-down yet? Even when not playing games, the CPU temperature is very high. Please enable this feature as soon as possible. It would be best to add this feature in the next BIOS update. This is very necessary.

I have never had a laptop that didnt have an option to not be able to undervolt. I very disappointed in acer for not having this option and hopefully they will have a bios update for undervolting. You can knock off 9c if you redo the liquid metal on the cpu and new thermal paste on the gpu. Thermal putty i would use upsiren u6 pro. Acer liquid metal application is not the greatest.

Undervoltprotection and overclock exist in the hidden part of the bios. However, disabling this does not apply on Windows. It seems that this needs to be updated by Acer.

You don't need to undervolt or overvolt or overclock these laptops like the Acer Predator PH16-71 laptop, as you will damage them, these Acer gaming laptops DO NOT NEED THAT and that is why Acer does NOT allow modifications of their laptops. Leave your Ace gaming laptop at default as they will perform great and be reliable for a very long time, if you start to modify these laptops and change voltages and/or overclock them, your laptop will not work and it will have a very short lifespan, as they will NOT last.

The Predator PH16-71 is a great gaming/editing laptop like and how Acer sells them in the box and at their oem specs, so leave your laptop like that and do the max upgrades that this laptop is designed for, as its ram can be increased to 32GB at 2x 16GB DDR5-5600 MT/s then upgrade its M.2 SSD boot and slave drives to a high-end Samsung 2TB 990 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD drive and you can't go wrong as you will have a reliable and a top end running laptop for gamin and edition with plenty of high performing storage.

We are using it as a reference.

Other companies' similar lineups with liquid processing also provide undervolting, but we will not do it.

It sounds like there will be no consideration for user convenience. Don't forget, hx is a desktop-based CPU.

Shame that this isn't an option, maybe at near future they will reconsider it since it is a must for this type of laptop

It's absolutely baffling that Acer has completely neglected their flagship laptop like this. My i9 is already failing and Acer support is as unhelpful as ever. Letting the CPU run at 95 degrees is 100% a manufacturing issue and all customers who face issues because of this should be compensated fairly.

the VID (Max) My PHN16-71's voltage is very high, almost reaching 1.6V. I'm worried because I speak Portuguese and I can't find any content talking about this voltage, whether it's very high or still within the parameters.

Press fn+tab before turning on your laptop. Turn on your laptop and as soon as the screen comes on press f2 a couple times. From there you should be able to go into the advanced BIOS on the neo model.

This lets you undervolt the CPU.

@ritwitz Dude, this thread on PH16-71. Not Neo.
@you other dudes and dudets: That fn+tab not applicable to Helios 16-71 bios 1.16 afaik.

@heamo dude, the i13700hx is mobile processor. Check intel site, note: not desktop. Mobile. See:

I think @StevenGen might be right on this topic, it does not seem to me that the PH16-71 with i13700HX needs undervolting, at least not to run safely. Alas, that is the case w.r.t. my unit. I have not found any major review or analysis site indicating differently, pls comment if you find one!

Yes undervolting shoud be added everybody has it lenovo asus even NEO has it

and acer tells me that neo is cheaper anPH16 is flagship :))))

so where are our bios updates ? :)))

there wasnt bios update in one year for PH16 71

i had dead cpu mobo in april, they didnt tell what they changed,

but i have new mobo - maybe repaired reused mobo because later i have seen that fans have bent some blades and later i have found that left usb isnt working probably disconnected flex or what or bad mobo :)

    it wasnt checked :)

but i have 4 years waranty so maybe later :) when cpu dies :)))

Where is bios update for predator 16. Also why don't we have support for undervolting as temps are reaching sky high

The under volt of Acer cpu's was terminated on Acer laptops a long time ago and you cant under volt anymore. Acer does not have any bios fixes as they don't seem to think that a bios fix is needed for the Intel 13th and 14th Gen cpu of laptops, they do have bios fixes for some Predator Orion desktops for the "Vmin Shift Instability issue" which are these symptoms explained below. Good luck and hope this explains it to you

Following extensive investigation of the Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen desktop processor Vmin Shift Instability issue, Intel can now confirm the root cause diagnosis for the issue. This post will cover Intel’s understanding of the root cause, as well as additional mitigations and next steps for Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen desktop users.

    Vmin Shift Instability Root Cause

Intel® has localized the Vmin Shift Instability issue to a clock tree circuit within the IA core which is particularly vulnerable to reliability aging under elevated voltage and temperature. Intel has observed these conditions can lead to a duty cycle shift of the clocks and observed system instability.

Intel® has identified four (4) operating scenarios that can lead to Vmin shift in affected processors:

    1. Motherboard power delivery settings exceeding Intel power guidance.
      a.  Mitigation: Intel® Default Settings recommendations for Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors.
    2. eTVB Microcode algorithm which was allowing Intel® Core™ 13th and 14th Gen i9 desktop processors to operate at higher performance states even at high temperatures.
      a.  Mitigation: microcode 0x125 (June 2024) addresses eTVB algorithm issue.
    3. Microcode SVID algorithm requesting high voltages at a frequency and duration which can cause Vmin shift.
      a.  Mitigation: microcode 0x129 (August 2024) addresses high voltages requested by the processor.
    4. Microcode and BIOS code requesting elevated core voltages which can cause Vmin shift especially during periods of idle and/or light activity.
      a.  Mitigation: Intel® is releasing microcode 0x12B, which encompasses 0x125 and 0x129 microcode updates, and addresses elevated voltage requests by the processor during idle and/or light activity periods.

Yeah, @Magara and @Marshall0904 , I am a bit surprised that there is such a long time and since the last BIOS update, undervolting or not. Personally I do not have the urge to go undervolting at the moment*. PH16-71 is not however not without bugs so I expected to see more updates.

I wouldn't have guessed that Acer gave up updates for hard ware on the high end the year after its release.

*given the rumors that sub 65 W and laptops are doing fine with gen 13-14.
