Different BT versions, different HW like the Wi-Fi card, many other reasons, it is like comparing "apples and pears".😉

What computer do you have? What does Device Manager say about the Wireless card and the Bluetooth?

Make sure your device is turned on, is charged fully or has fresh batteries, and is in range of the PC you want to connect to. Then, try the following: Turn off your Bluetooth device, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Make sure your Bluetooth device is in range.

Yes, Device Manager displays Bluetooth ok and some connections. What it confirms though is a probable need for a bt dongle upgrade to 5.1 - 5.3. Perhaps 5.0 not up to date. Thanks.

To upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 or 5.3 bt dongle see if that does it. thanks.

Sadly tried all the obvious stuff, except maybe upgrading my bt dongle. To give that a try. Looks as though my Acer Veriton needs dongles to connect up to bt.! Acer Aspire 5 has and it no trouble.

You still haven't told us what computer you have. You say in the last post that it's a Veriton, but there have been hundreds of different Veriton models over the last several years. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx.

Thanks Billsey and others for advice. It is sadly the simple and the obvious that sorts out some issues.

Techo friend says, "You have an Acer Veriton Desktop, what BT dongle have you got?" I tell him 5.0. So he replies get a 5.1/5.3 and it will work. And it has!

Thanks again to all. I have learnt something.
