Hi,

My laptop [Nitro AN517-54] will not power on unless it's plugged in. I purchased a battery replacement, but it's the same issue.

I do see the battery indicator as if it's charging, looks like it's charging slowly; always about 32%.

I also completed the following scans:

sfc scannow

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

Open Device Manager. Expand batteries folder. Uninstall all drivers in batteries folder. Exit Device Manager without reinstalling anything. Shut down Windows normally. Then turn machine back on.

Here are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Battery Issue
      • Even though it's a new replacement battery, it's possible that the battery is defective or not holding a proper charge.
      • Try using a different known-good battery (if possible) to rule out an issue with the replacement battery itself.
    2. Battery Connector/Circuit Issue
      • There could be a problem with the battery connector on the laptop's motherboard, preventing it from properly charging or detecting the battery.
      • This could be caused by a loose connection, corrosion, or a faulty charging circuit on the motherboard.
    3. BIOS/EC Firmware Issue
      • In some cases, a BIOS or Embedded Controller (EC) firmware issue can cause problems with battery charging or power management.
      • You may want to check if there are any BIOS/EC firmware updates available for your specific Nitro AN517-54 model from Acer.
    4. Power Adapter Issue
      • Although less likely, it's also possible that the AC power adapter you're using is faulty or not providing enough power for the laptop to run without the battery.
      • Try using a different known-good power adapter, if possible.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Remove and reseat the battery connector on the motherboard (be careful, as this can be delicate).
    2. Try a different known-good battery, if possible.
    3. Check for any BIOS/EC firmware updates from Acer and install them if available.
    4. Use a different AC power adapter, if possible.
    5. As a last resort, you may need to have the laptop serviced by an Acer authorized repair center to diagnose and potentially replace the charging circuitry or motherboard.

The fact that the laptop is not powering on without being plugged in, even with a new battery, strongly suggests a hardware issue with the battery charging/power circuitry.
