My acer nitro an 515-58's touchpad stopped working. I have tried everything I can think of.
This computer uses windows 11
It happened out of nowhere. At first I used a restore point and it fixed the issue for a few weeks. Then it happened again and this time the restore point only worked for a few days. Now it doesn't work for more than 10 minutes.
It is not an issue caused by fn+f7. It seems to be caused by drivers malfunction. When I go to my device manager I can see that whenever the touchpad stops functionning, several drivers vanish. Those include the elan precision touchpad driver and the microsoft input configuration device. I have tried reinstalling the elan driver on my own to no avail. I have also downloaded I/O drivers from the acer website but this doesn't do anything.
Only the I2C HID driver remains with a code 10 error message.
I have tried several fixes
-I used restore points
-I used the chkdsk c: /f/r command. It fixed the problem once and then never again.
-I went into the registry to modify the policy section since I saw these could cause problems.
-I went into the Bios and switched my touchpad from I2C to p2s. It worked for a time but after a while the same issue occured.
I am at my wit's end with this. Please if anyone knows a fix I would be extremelly grateful.
