Updating Bios/Firmware & Drivers in Aspire A515-58P

Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire A515-58P bought brand new in May this year (2023). The Acer Care Center that came preinstalled has been telling me in the "Update" section that "Your system is up to date," but when I go to acer.com→support→drivers and manuals and entering my SNID there, I see that several drivers' updated versions were released and are available to download. More importantly, I see that an update for BIOS/Firmware is also available to download (I checked in System Information that my installed BIOS version/date is "Insyde Corp. V1.00, 12/30/2022," while the new version that is available on Acer.com's Drivers and Manuals page for my Aspire A515-58P is 1.04 released on 2023/08/30!

Please advise if I should go ahead and download all the new updates, including the updated BIOS/Firmware that is available from Acer.com's Drivers and Manuals page for my Aspire A515-58P, even though the Acer Care Center app is insisting that my "system is up to date."

Really looking forward to hearing from an Acer expert here soon, as I believe BIOS and all drivers should be kept up to date for better security.

(My Avast antivirus is also recommending me to update the drivers because new updates have been made available by the manufacturer — you, Acer)

I recommend that you completely trust Windows11 23H2 with updates, security and upgrades. That "disclaimer" is for legal purposes only. Always accept the offered updates unless it is for an external USB device seldom used. Bios/firmware installs better with W11 updater than if you update manually, it will be properly recorded in Device manager when installed with W11. I never regretted installing Bios/firmware with W10 or W11 updates. 😉

You are using Windows11 23H2 that is fully updated, I hope (version 22631.2506). So you don't need to worry about outdated drivers anymore if you have all Windows update features turned on and Advanced options enabled. Whenever there a new version driver or BIOS released by Acer it will be offered in Windows11 Optional Updates. Don't install manually drivers, especially not from 3rd-party vendors/sites. Acer Care Center does not work well in W11, hangs and interferes with Windows11 updater WAU, you don't need ACC, I would uninstall it as it runs continuously at the background and uses valuable resources.

    Hi @Puraw

Thanks for your prompt and helpful response!

I just checked and saw an Insyde Software Firmware update is, in fact, available in the Optional Updates for my Windows 11 23H2 (and yes, it is 22631-2506).

I know this is not a Windows 11 help forum, but would you advise installing the available Firmware update via the optional update of Windows 11, even though Windows 11 says in the optional updates area that "If you have a specific problem, one of these drivers might help. Otherwise, automatic updates will keep your drivers up to date."?

I am not experiencing any "specific problem," so was just wondering would still updating the firmware would be a good idea because maybe this Firmware update is highly recommended by Acer?

    Thank you.
