Hello all,

This is my first laptop with non-removable battery. All my previous laptops had removable batteries and most of time I used laptop on charger with removed battery. But now this P259-M has non-removable battery and I want to know what is the best way to charge battery to have maximum battery lifetime. Is it better to charge battery to 100% and then take out charger and use laptop on batter until battery drop to some percent (40-50%) and then charge it again to 100%...or it doesn't matter battery would last the same no matter how I charge battery - the same if I use charger all the time or just on battery without charger when battery is above 50%?

Kind regards.

    The TraveMate P259-M laptop has an internal battery and you need to open the back cover to change it, which is easy. See this useful guide How to Care for Your Laptop’s Battery (So It Lasts Longer)as you can set that the battery only charges to 80% charge in Acer Control Centre. Version:4.00.3012. Do all this as it works.

    Thanks for this great article. Could you please tell me with this Acer Control Centre app can I manage to laptop be all time on the charger and application controls the charger to charge only when battery level drops to 40% and to charge it to 80% max?

    No you can only stop the battery charging above 80% not to charge only when battery level drops to 40%, see captions below of all what ACC does for the battery:

    I understand the part - ACC doesn't allow if it is turned on to battery be charged above 80%. But I have dilemma what is better for battery if I use my laptop at home most of time on charger and because of battery could not be removed while laptop is connected to AC outlet (charger), should I use charger turned on all the time with ACC set to 80% max battery charging or to charge laptop to 80% and then remove charger and then again when battery level drops to 40% turn on charger again?

    Yes, many systems don't support the 80% limit with Acer Control Center. If you don't have that option your best usage is to run on charger most of the time, and allow it to run on battery until it gets down to the 40% level or so a couple of time a week.

    Well as you said Acer Control Centre is good solution if system supports it, but for example Acer Control Centre could limit battery charging to 80% when you login to OS but time before OS and ACC start battery will be charged every time and those short chargings would be count as battery charging cycles, am I right?

    Not exactly. One charging cycle is charging the battery from 0 to 100% or from 40 to 80% and then from 40 to 100%. 20 mini cyles from 95 to 100% would be one complete cycle.

    @William_mk2

    Thanks for the link given above, but I've already read this manual and IMO it's universal instruction for first time battery use but it doesn't say anywhere how to use battery after first 3 times charging to accomplish best battery capacity and to last longer. As I said before I use laptop 95% of the time on the charger and don't want if don't need to charge battery all the time and reduce battery charging cycles... On my old laptops where battery was removable it was easy task - charge battery about 40-50% and remove it while using laptop on AC adapter.

    @Wascas

    Then if it is so like you say then it is the best way to use laptop on AC adapter all the time and 20 mini chargings will reduce just one battery charging cycle and if this Travelmate P259-M has smart charging electronics when battery is fully charged (or 80% with ACC) to turn off battery charging and battery heating. Simply to act as battery is removed then it is much better option than to run laptop on battery and charge it every day or two from 40% to 80%?
