Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R3MS //Power Button Issue

Laptop is fully functional, but since some time ago i've noticed that the power button is no longer functioning properly. It can still forcefully shutdown the machine, but it does not react to short presses (hibernation (or sleep) as i previously set it). However, when i check (online, multiple sites) the key presses, its functioning and acts as a left click?!?! (It does not act as a left click when i try and hover over files, and then press it...nothing happens).

Any ideas?

    Hello!!

    @MCCXLVII,

I understand that you have Power button issue. From the description, it seems to be Hardware issue. If you believe your computer is under Warranty, I recommend you to contact Acer Technical Support in your region and look for repair options.

    Try this procedure.

    1. Open Control Panel. Search 'button'.
    2. Click 'change what the power buttons do in left pane'.
    3. Click 'change settings that are currently unavailable'.
    4. Make sure all button and lid modes are set to sleep, none to hibernate.
    5. Then scroll down and UNcheck box for fast start up.
    6. Then shut down Windows normally. Unplug charger.
    7. Then firmly press & hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Don't let go of the power button during this time. This automatically disconnects internal battery and drains any excess charge from internal components that might cause issue.
    8. After 10 seconds, plug the charger back in but wait for the battery charge light to turn steady blue.
    9. After charge LED turns steady blue, quick press the power button to turn machine back on.
    10. Test power button sleep mode operation again

Thank you for Your rapid reply, unfortunately the instructions that you gave me weren't fruitful. I did exactly as instructed to no avail. Heres a screenshot of how it looks like when I press the power button against virtual keyboard. Just acts as a left click.

Are you using the English KB layout as instructed?

Yes, I've tried that too (I use two layouts), still no effect.

Open Device Manager. Without manually expanding any folders, do you see any red or yellow device driver warnings?

Kind of, I reinstalled Windows, did everything properly, but then I noticed problem persisted. It might be an update reason, but I can't be sure.

Unfortunately, about the only way to rule in or rule out a powerbutton, keyboard or ribbon cable hardware issue without disassembling the machine, is a full erase everything factory reset. Personal files should be backed up.

Thanks for your reply. I think I can live with that for now, so I'll just leave it as is.

That's probably what I would also do if it remains fully functional.
