    considering the time it took for the computer to reinstall from the recovery disks last time i'll update you earliest next week after trying them during the weekend unless you have other suggestions i could try.

    As mentioned earlier, if the hidden OEM recovery partition on the original boot drive is still intact, you could try to re-install using the ALT+F10 cold boot factory reset.

    Frankly, I don't have a lot of confidence in the home-made discs. Even the write-once discs were more heat-unstable than tape back in the day. I seriously doubt that they would last ten years without errors even in the fridge. If they took a long time to re-install the last time you used them, it could very well mean that laser scanning head was already having problems reading them. And if any steps were skipped due to read-error notices, this could account for the yellow driver warnings.
