Hi,
My nitro 5 has really hot temps when gaming is this normal? It reaches 99°C even when the fans are on full. I have not repasted as I do not know if this will void my warranty. If it doesn't could you recommend a good paste. My GPU temps are fine and never surpasses 75°C.

90°C or more is not normal.
System will automatically shutdown at 100°C to protect your system component.

Is there is any seal or sticker in the back of laptop on the top of screw?

No there isn't any sticker on the underside. I purchased the laptop in December and it was running hot since then.

Then you can repaste without voiding warranty.
Do you know how to repaste correctly?

Yes, by adding a pea sized drop on the processor then placing the heatsink back on. Which brand of thermal paste do you recommend? Or do you think it's worth letting Acer do it? Bearing in mind that I can't afford the downtime of the laptop being shipped back and forth, as I need it now.

Listen while opening your laptop if you harm or damage any component then warranty will void.
Watch this video what you need to do

If you can do repaste  like shown in video then i can recommend you best thermal paste.

If you thing you can't do it or may do some mistakes while doing then send it to service centre.

Hi bro, I have the same laptop as you. These are the steps I took to reduce my cpu temps to low 80C on heavy load, however it will occasionally spike to 90C. I have not re-pasted my cpu or gpu yet, I plan to do it in the future though. 90C stable cpu temp under load is probably not good for your laptop, i reccomend you repaste if my solutions dont help

    1) Undervolt to -0.150V (I used Intel Extreme Tuning Utility)
    2) Buy a laptop stand (I purchased a metal one from Amazon, you can try one of those cooling pads if you want)
    3) NitroSense: Run your fans on max via custom fan control, turn on cool boost. (this is important as acer's thermal design is ***** and you need maximum airflow during heavy load)
    4) NitroSense: run on power saver mode, keep laptop plugged in while gaming
    5) on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility disable "Turbo boost short power max enable"

good luck bro, let me know if it helps

I have found another potential fix, it just lowered my cpu temps by 20C. however you may sacrifice performance on high demand games

    1. go to power  and sleep settings
    2. additional power settings
    3. change plan settings
    4. change advanced power settings
    5. processor power management
    6. maximum processor power state
    7. change from 100% to 99%

i believe this disables the cpu turbo boost function.

@JohnWestSardines Yes,it will disable turbo boost
You will also get lower fps.
One day in future you need to apply new thermal paste.
Looks like default thermal cpu paste is not working good.

Btw, this overheating also cause by outdated gpu driver and bios.
Also, if you install any antivirus disable it before playing games

Thanks for the reply. Will the undervolting reducing CPU performance? The 2),3),4) steps I've already done to no avail. The fifth step will that disable turbo boost?

No,undervolt doesn't affect performance.it will decrease cpu voltage but it is only usefull at safe level.
I don't recommend you earlier about this because you temperature reaching 99°C and undervolt will not permanent solution.
I advise you to do thermal repaste as well undervolt

    Here is guide to undervolt↓

Iv'e tried this and I do get lower temps whilst sacrificing a 10 or so FPS. The thing still stutters occasionally in games. Like shown in the graph the occasional dips.

Shall I get the kryonaut thermal paste?

Yeah I'll just do the thermal paste first. It's a shame I have to re-paste both cause my GPU temps are perfect under heavy load.

I also had some heat issues. When I changed to power saver mode in NitroSense the temp dropped by 10-15 degrees. Why is that? Is the performance worse for games in that mode?

I cleaned the OEM thermal paste and reapplied Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut...Then I switched the Power Plan in Nitro Sense to "Power Saver" mode... Gaming temps have dropped from 95C down to 60C! Frame rates have dropped a bit, however the CPU and GPU temps have dropped dramatically... Id rather sacrifice a few FPS and not have my CPU and GPU burn up... Hope this Helps!

Your should play in high performance mode and for more performance check this-

I had this same issue, my GPU was fine but my CPU te,p went through the roof while gaming, it would take a whole hour for it to cool down whence I closed the game, open of the computer, and clean out the fan for the CPU located on the left, mine had collected tons of dust and cat fur from overtime and was surprised by how much the temperature changed.
