Good day

I currently have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-59AR
Intel Core i5-10300H 2.50GHz Quad Core
8GB Sk Hynix DDR4-3200MHz CL22 (running at 2933MHz)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6

I would like to install another 8GB Stick to bring the total to 16GB, I previously posted and got help, but when i took my laptop in to buy and get the 8GB Crucial DDR4 3200mhz ram (identical specs as my current ram only different chip manufactures) installed i was told its not compatible with my current memory as the chips are different - 1 being Micron 16 chips and the other Sk Hynix 8 chips. I was told to buy a new kit of matching ram - was i just told that to spend more money or is it true?

I did find another Sk Hynix 8GB DDR-2400Mhz Ram CL17, i understand my current ram would slow down to match the specs of the lower ram but either than that would there be an issues in damaging the laptop?

Would appreciate any help in this issue as to which would be the better option to go with.

Thank you

@ShayGokul you can still get the Crucial RAM as it still works fine. They just have different ranks or densities (more info: https://technichero.com/what-is-memory-rank/). The 1Rx16 Crucial stick will perform a bit slower than the 1Rx8 SK Hynix one but not really much. If possible, you can try to find another 1Rx8 RAM stick to lessen the compatibility concerns.

@ShayGokul same brand is not really necessary, you can ask for another brand such as Samsung, Kingston, or Micron, ... If they don't have one, you can ask them to try the 1Rx16 stick to see if it works and the RAM speed is still 2933MHz

    Hi,
You need a 3200MHz with CL value of 22 module, the module you bought may have a faulty RAM, did you check it by installing only the new RAM? If you haven't, try installing the new RAM(Crucial 3200MHz) after removing the old RAM stick.
8GB Hynix 2400MHz may work but the CL value for it is 17, it's better to match the specs when you upgrade memory with the existing RAM.

Good day, thank you for the reply... i have found other 1Rx8 but its 16GB 2666Mhz or 8GB 2400Mhz

For some weird reason most pc stores in the country say they low on stock, reason for me unable to find any SK Hynix 8GB DDR4 3200mhz

Good day, thank you for the reply. It is a Crucial 3200mhz CL22 module, i never bought the ram.. when i went to the store to buy it and asked them to install it for me they gave me the story saying i should buy a matching kit as it wont work with my current sk hynix ram since different chip manufactures

I have lots of experience with this, unfortunately, but those sticks WILL run at 2666mhz... To get 2933mhz, you'll need specific ram chips... To run at 3200mhz, well, you can't, unless you spend upwards of about $400 for 32GB...

It has to do with the overclocking of ram, the XMP profile isn't supported on these laptops, unfortunately. I tried everything to try to get it to work only to find out it's impossible...

2666mhz seems to be the way to go, but if you add more RAM than you had, for example, going from 16GB to 32GB, the drop to 2666mhz isn't really noticeable, in fact, you'll gain more performance because of the extra RAM...

Although, if you buy 2666mhz, most likely they're advertised as 2666mhz WITH XMP, however, if you don't have XMP, none of the Nitro 5's do, so it'll run slower...
