Does the Acer Aspire with the below specs support an M.2 SATA or NVMe SSD?

Hi,
Yes, you can install a M.2 NVMe SSD because others have installed it but they are getting only the speed of M.2 SATA SSD.

If you check the link provided by @brummyfan2, you can see I participated in the discussion.
Since your PC is using i5-7400 CPU, there is still a chance that you can use PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD with x2 speed ( 1,700 MB/s read), but I am not too sure about that. You can confirm that by downloading and run HWINFO64 and provide a screen shot or a snip here.
BUS> PCI Express #0> Root Port #21 (or #6 ... etc)
Check the Maximum Link Width there.0
