    (1) Press and hold power button until laptop shuts off
    (2) Unplug charger
    (3) Gently press and hold paperclip into battery disconnect pinhole on bottom for one minute
    (4) Plug charger back in and wait for battery charge LED to turn from steady orange to steady blue
    (5) After turning steady blue, turn laptop on again

  • The same issue occurs when disabling fast startup in power options.

This is likely the culprit. When Microsoft installs a UEFI BIOS update like this is sets the BIOS into a state that is often quite different from the normal factory default, which can cause Kernel Mode errors. Go into the BIOS, use the F9 key to reset it and the F10 key to save an exit and it should clear up

I have the exact same symptoms as the OP, having installed the same Windows 11 updates. If I choose Shutdown and let the laptop shutdown, and then press the Power button to restart the laptop, it boots up fine. It is only when I select Restart from the Power Menu options that the problem occurs. The machine shuts down, restarts, the Acer logo appears with a spinning cursor, then the BSOD "KMode Exception not handled" appears.

I followed Jack E's proposed solution to reset the battery, it made no diference - the crash still occurs on every restart.

I followed billsey's suggestion to reset the BIOS to default, and that made no difference either :(

Did you at least try the new ACER OEM Win11 chipset drivers too? You may also have to install even more ACER OEM Win11 drivers till all the issues are resolved. This is part of the price you have to pay for changing to Win11. It seems not quite ready for plug and play without bugs yet.

DhruvChaudhary sorry to hear “THAT YOU GOT TRAPPED INTO THIS VERY AWFULK MS BIOS UPDATE” as it should never be allowed as an option in WU! This dreaded "Insyde Software - Firmware - 5.42.1.26" (note the last two digits as that is the same as the last Acer bios version for your laptop which is the version 1.26) also and if you would have read the threads of all consumers on this subject? Then you would have found out that this bios updated is FAULTY and there have been allot of consumers that have bricked their systems and have experienced the same as you have ever since Microsoft started rolling out these corrupt bios updates with Win-10.

You should under NO circumstances be installing bios and/or firmware updates from anybody else other than Acer and what Acer approves for your laptop and what is listed on the Acer Driver & Manuals page for your Aspire A515-56. As this Microsoft and allot of other and especially NVIDIA GPU firmware updates from other sites are known to brick and cause huge problems on Acer laptops. I've been running Win-11 on a brand new Nitro AN515-56 for 3 months and have a similar sort of a firmware update (in windows update) that comes up and under “Optional updates > Insyde Software - Firmware - 5.42.1.8” which is the same as the last Acer bios for my AN515-56 the v1.08 and by not installing this update (but I’ve installed all Cumulative Updates and all Updates for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems nad GPU firmware updates from Acer) I’ve never ever had your problems or any bricked laptop or BSOD’s and or crashes of Win-11.

My suggestion to you is this, is for you to talk to Acer and get advice from their tech department and/or send your laptop to them (as they have the proper BIOS Secure Flash Utilities programs) but this will cost you or the cheaper way is for you to get an independent technician (that has all the tools especially mico soldering) to replace the bios chip with a new one, here is a bios chip for your Aspire A515-56 for USD $18.00 “BIOS CHIP Acer Aspire A314-33, A315-55G, A515-54, A515-54G, A515-56G,No Password” that is easily fitted and exchanged and you will not be up for huge costs to fix this laptop, that is what I would do.

Can you suggest me that without buy a new BIOS chip can I repair?

    Thanks!

Hi JackE, thanks for responding. The upgrade to Win11 was offered on first boot of the system after purchase so I went ahead. The machine has worked fine until the BIOS update to 1.26. I'll check that other drivers are up to date as well.

Follow-up: My system has the MediaTek MT7921 WiFi adaptor installed, and there was an updated Win11 version available (3.0.1.1300) so I downloaded and installed it. Rebooted, and no BSOD. Rebooted, and no BSOD! So far, so good; if @DhruvChaudhary has the same WiFi adapter installed, worth trying to update it and see if this works for him/her as well.

I'll hold up on installing any further Win11 driver updates that might be available whilst I monitor to see if the system continues to be stable after the WiFi driver update. My caution is necessary as I've had a couple of times where the BSOD didn't appear, whilst trying different stuff in successive reboots.

Thanks for reporting back Nigel.  MediaTek cards have reportedly had issues. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it stays 'so good'.  :) But just in case a Win11 update messes it up, make sure System Protection is turned on in Control Panel's restore point app.

Following multiple restart tests with no crashes I'm now ready to confirm that updating the WiFi adapter has resolved the BSOD on restart issue on my system. Many thanks to JackE for proposing the solution.

OK. Good. Don't forget to turn on System Protection anyway. :)

My guess is the reason why the buggy Mediatek driver was crashing on a restart and not on a shutdown/power on was due to some fast startup options. When doing a restart, in order to allow for a faster experience, it doesn't power off the WiFi. Their older drivers obviously don't like doing a soft reset...

I experienced the same issue with an Aspire A515-45 model.
In my case the problem was the Mediatek bluetooth driver, that Windows Update automatically updated last week to version 1.3.15.143. Rolling back to the previous version 1.3.13.102 solved the issue for me.

The A515-45 model is very different from the A515-56. Yours is AMD based, the model this thread is about is Intel based. There is a possibility they use the same WiFi card, but since they were released in different years you would have to look in Device Manager for both to see if they are the same.
