I have an Acer Swift 1, and am having issues connecting to an external display.  Ultimately, I would like to connect two exterior displays.  However, right now I would be happy with getting the computer to identify one display.  I have tried connecting the laptop to the display with a HDMI cable, and with a USB-C to HDMI cable.  So far the computer has not detected any external displays.  My concern is that the computer is not capable, but I read on a message board that it is.  If someone can please let me know if connecting external displays to my laptop is possible, and if so how?

Thank you

Which Swift 1 mode do you have? There have been a lot of them... It should be something like SF1xx-xxx-xxxx.

OK, your SF114-32 has an HDMI port for an external display. The USB-C port is gen 1 and doesn't support DP over USB as an option. That means in order to add a second display to it you'll need a dock that does it's own video generation, not one that just has a pass through. Your HDMI port is a 1.4b, it supports up to 1920x1080@60Hz and 3840x2160@30Hz. I don't see any issues with using a monitor on the HDMI port with just a cable, unless you are trying to go 4K at 60Hz... What happens when you connect a display to the HDMI then hit Windows-P and select Extend from the menu?

That is what I tried initially.  I tried just connecting an HDMI cable from my computer to the monitor.  I even tried several different monitors.  I was not able to detect any of the monitors when I attempted to do so.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Perhaps that one is bad. It should work...

I am going to see if I have another cable here today.  If not, I will get another one and try it.  Will let you know if it works or not.

I was able to go out and get a new cable and it solved the issue.  I should have not been so lazy, and tried that step first.  I will get rid of the cable that didn't work, so I don't make the same mistake in the future. Thank you so much for your help through this process!
